I try to stay around 20%, and not go any higher.
I believe too high protein causes issues. I could be wrong, I dunno....
In my experience - I had at least 4 cock birds with gout and 1 with some kinda weird leg issues. I felt it was because I was feeding too much protein.
Well, I don't know how ya would ever know if the chick was sickly or weak (after finding them dead), but I do know I have had good broodies and bad broodies. One time I had 3 hatching the same day and every one of them killed their first chick, and one killed five!. Some were just dead and...
Mark 14:30
30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
I just got home from Frank's. I got some more Barred Rocks, New Hampshires, and 6 turkeys (his first of the year). I am glad to be home. Yet again, I got lost and wasted 2 hours of time (and gas). I swear it is because I am old. I did not get the typical old age grey hair. My naturally red hair...

I don't understand the, "let the eggs settle," after shipping thing.
I don't do it.
However, if it is this kind of weather, I do let the eggs warm up before setting them.
I endorse HovaBators. One most important reason is that they are made in the USA. That is important to me. I like their product, as well. Hovabotor Genesis is my favorite hatcher.
Brinsea - of course, not made in the USA. I don't like their customer service and I don't like their incubators.
I have sorta changed my mind on giving 4H kids birds. I think it is better to sell them to them. Then, they seem to take a little better care. In the past I have given them away, and they lose some and figure it is no great loss - as they were free.
