I was feeding them another kind of bird seed before for 3 days a week as an extra source of feed for them and never had a problem with that, but after that i changed the brand of the bird seed and mixed it with their original feed, so they become eating it everyday. And here where the problems...
The hen which laid soft shell yesterday still dropping her wings like she is going to lay again, she was doing it since she started laying this year, the vet checked her and said she isn't sick, she just needs to eat and drink more, her eggs weren't normal looking since she started laying and...
I remember @connerhills once said here that there are some peahens will never be able to use in breeding programs, every year they will have issues with their eggs, any kind of problems, i hope i remember what he wrote write. I think i have three of these peahens, two of them are the mysterious...
I was thinking of providing better feed for them, someone suggested this feed for me, I hope he don't LOL, I have an appointment with a feed company, they are going to create a specific feed for me, will try it for two weeks first, if everything went well i will keep using it.
She just laid a soft shell egg, thanks god she laid it, she was suffering the pervious 24 hours, they have eggs shells and oyster shells in their pen, but nothing helped.
It seems age isn't just a number then
Its great she is eating, she supposed to lay her 5th egg tonight right? The hen i visited the vet today for also has problem in laying eggs, this her egg yesterday:
The vet thought its because she isn't eating well and needs some vitamins, i'm thinking it wasn't eating enough because she was...
I'm fine thanks for asking, just got back from the vet, finally saved an old sick hen, got some chicks hatched yesterday so things are better now
Hoping your hen will lay the egg herself, is she eating and drinking now? I thought it will just happen for the first egg of the season.
I looked for the egg but can't find it, i only found the yolk, don't know if i was doing it right or wrong but i believe the egg was broken since yesterday night. And i hope i don't need to do a necropsy because I'm so tired, and will need to drive back to home, that's a 2 hours trip.
Thank you, i'm thinking all of this happened because of the pigeons seed i added to their feed last week, the peafowl started to only eat the pigeons seed and leave their main pellets, i just moved this seed and got back to their old pellets.
I understand, and i'm 99% sure its egg bound, saw them mating two weeks ago and the other hen in this pen started laying this week, also i'm sure i felt the egg yesterday, but I can't check her vent now, she seems to get hurt when i try to enter my finger.
I will not be able to visit the vet until tomorrow, so hoping she will be alive by that time, she isn't moving now, if i put her in the tub she will not jump i guess.
