16 out of 20 eggs hatched. Now enjoying my adorable little fluff butts. They have already mastered the water nipple at less then 24 hours old for most. Last one born early this morning.
I've got 3 pipped eggs! Sadly, one is at the wrong end...I hope she is a fighter and gets out of that shell. I've helped breach chicks before so I will monitor this little one. Love the chirping from inside their shells, can't wait to see a baby chick emerge! I'm so jealous for everyone else's...
I had a zero success rate from my previous incubation batch that was shipped also. Just too much jarring around I guess. My current batch were all hand delivered from a lady just 2 blocks from me and all laid within the last 24 hours so I should have a great success rate with this batch...
I will be setting about 2 dozen eggs on Wed Jan 4th. These hatchlings will be a surprise lot as I'm getting a mix of eggs from a local chicken lady. We moved last year so I gave away all of my hens. Now that we are settled into our new home I'm ready to start a new flock. Totally different...
I have 16 adult laying hens of various breeds that I would like to find good homes for. The oldest hens turned 1 yr old in May, youngest turned 1 yr old in August. Several of them were hatched by be so they are quite freindly. I've only fed them Non-GMO Organic feed. They are all healthy, a few...
I feed FF in the morning and they eat most of it right then, then finish it off throughout the day. They always have dry feed available at all times. They do still eat it, just not nearly as much since they love their FF. They get to free range a bit in the evenings to fill up on grasses and...
I had very little luck getting barley to sprout worth a poo for me. In my experimenting the cost difference of cheap vs quality seeds ended up being better with quality seeds because so little of the cheap seed sprouted compared to the quality seed...in the end I got more than double sprouts...
I've had people drop cats and dogs out here in the country, but chickens? That is not only cruel to do to their chicken, (place a Craig's list ad if nothing else) but what about the potential damage to the chicken keepers flock when introducing diseases that your chickens haven't been exposed...
My husband is a general contractor so I can share some tips, and lessons, from my years of watching people haul lumber WRONG.
First, don't try hauling your lumber with the tailgate up. The weight of the lumber Will bend your tailgate to where it will no longer open or close. (Personal...
All of the seeds do not usually sprout. The seeds that don't will get trapped in the roots of those that do and the birds enjoy them as well. I found that sprouting in a Sprouter system like the Victorio first before moving the sprouts to my growing trays (see my profile for links to my system...
Lol, no I meant what are the chickens in the upper picture of "a little chicken' post. The barred rock is mine. The yellow one in the same picture is my mystery girl, she isn't buff Orpington, I have those and she's different. She also has tufts on her face.
I just add a cup of dried split peas to the dry feed that I put in the fermenting jar...so it comes as a dry feed, but is then fermented before I give it to the girls.
