I am trying to find a gentleman i purchased Heritage Rhode Island Reds eggs from in Kentucky. I believe he lived in Pennsylvania but his sons were here in southern Kentucky. I am old and can't remember names for nothing, but he had a heritage barred rock post on here and RIRs

I don't know if it is an increase in numbers, thus competition for food, or just city hawks that are used to people, or what. After 8 years with only one hawk attack of no consequence, I can't leave them out for 5 minutes any more. I can't count the number of attacks in the last year, but I know...
I am sure there has been many a post on the subject, but here goes again.
I have quarantined my 20 week old RIR roo for being too sexually aggressive with pullets that are not ready for the advances. This may not have been a good idea since it is only making him more eager. I have on occasion...
I have had problems with squirrels eating my chicken feed. I don't know if the chickens are afraid of them, but they don't chase them from the run like they do birds. Anyway, I opened the door to the coop yesterday and a squirrel made a dash past me, leaping from the door jamb toward the...
if day 21 starts ar noon today, how much too early is pipping now? They hatched a little early on me last time, but turned out okay. I turned it back a 0.5 degree but I think this is a little early again.
my run is cover with 2x4 galvanized wire which has kept all varmints at bay, but allows pesky sparrows (an actual species Passer domesticus peskius) to get through. will 1" hexogon chicken wire keep them out?
my sister is on vacation and has emailed me this:
Traveling across eastern Colorado toward home and saw an unique chicken coop: a full size school bus, painted green, back door open with a ramp to the ground! Must have been 100 chickens in the shade provided by the bus
Anyone own up to this...
I have four hens that are now 2 years old. they have laid nicely for a 18 months. but they never molted last fall, still haven't, and are beginning to look a little frayed featherwise and eggshell wise too. I suspect they need a break from egg laying. anyone else's chickens skip molt?
I know some broodiness is desirable, at least by some, while none is preferred by others. I personally have had no experience with "heritage" breeds, the only thing I have ever had was hatchery stock. I was looking for input on the broodiness of standard size heritage breeds. I am actually...
I have 4 hens that are a year and 7 months old that have not molted. I don't think I have ever had hens in their 2nd autumn not to molt. the older hens did sometime back, but the 4 younger ones have not.
Is this common?

I was standing in my kitchen when motion in the backyard caught my attention. The immature Cooper's Hawk was back and the hens were out this time. I had found him looking at them through the wiring before. He (actually likely a she by its size) was hovering over an EE, dropping down with talons...
is there any desease my chickens could have that it is no advised to eat the eggs?
I definitely have something, but it has been in the flock for sometime, so I guess asking this question at this time may be too late.
i have lost 1 hen a year in four years, but have a 2nd one about to go from...
I have a hen that has been clucking for 2 weeks, everytime I find her on the nest I suspect she has gone to setting, but she is laying nearly on a daily basis. Anyone else seen this?
