I had one of my chickens have a egg shell stuck in her...and there was no egg in it. The shell was soft/leathery. There was no sign of egg in the nestbox or on the ground.
It was poking (about an inch) out of her bumm for over an hour. I watched to see if it came out, but after awhile I worried...
Is there anything special you give your chickens while they are molting?
Anything extra than jus the regualr pellet? I already treat them scratch and some bread each day.
Not all of ours are molting, but some are.
When do the chickens have their first molt?
I have some that are around 16 months.
Will it be soon.
They are starting to look a little ragged from picking at each other.
Hope they will get new feathers soon.
Does not having a roo mean the hens will be broody more often?
A fellew chicken owner told me that when you have no roos the hens
will go broody 4-6 times a year. Is this true?
We just broke one from her broody mood, and all is well again.
Just wondered how often it will happen.
We have one...
Will all EE chickens earlobes be red? I have heard earlobes can determine egg color.
Mine seem to have all red earlobes.
Will their eggs be brown?
Their legs seem to be a greenish/slate color.
We got chicks this spring. They are now 14 weeks old.
They are all doing well.
We are working on getting the little peeps and the big peeps living together in peace.
It is slowly happening. Here are some pictures of them.
We bought all girls...is that what we got??
I went into TSC the other day for a flock block and to just LOOK at the new baby chicks.
They are all gone...bins are gone...the sound of new peeps...gone.
Oh well, there is always next spring
How do you keep the big chickens from eating the little chickens food?
Plus the other way around?
All our chickens (year olds and 8 weeks old) are living together now.
So far we can keep the big girls out of the little peeps food by leaving it in their small coop. But I would love to take that...
Tonight we put the 8 week olds in the coop to sleep with the big one year old girls.
There was a scuffle at first...but with some soft talk, petting and a board between them
they have calmed down I keep going out to check on them (worried mother hen).
Hope this works out.
I think the only...
We are going to check out the new peeps tomorrow at TSC.
Hope they have a nice selection to pick from.
Hopefuly this time tomorrow we will have 6 new peeps in our home
I am new at chickens...less than a year at chicken mommyhood.
We have 8 laying hens...they will be 1 year old in March.
Well as any good chicken addict...I want more.
But how is this going to work??
How do I mix the flock ? I know the first few weeks they will live inside at night...
but...
Is it normal for first time chicken owners to be so worried about their
chickens?? I worry mine are to cold...I worry their little feet are cold in the snow..
I worry they want a different type bread than
what we give them...LOL
I feel the urge to knit little chicken socks...
The other day when...
I see people often comment unhappily about hatchery chickens.
I am new to chickens...so I am pretty clueless to the problems.
I got my chickens this spring from TSC.
Have had no troubles.
One died, but can't say why, it was only a week or two old.
Since I just kind jumped in blind to chickens I...
When will the eggs stop coming in the winter?
Is it just the less daylight...or does cold have something to do with it also?
How long does it last? We are new to the chicken stuff...so no idea how the winter will
affect them.
We have buff Orps...
Wyandottes... Amber Links
They are all from early...
