    Chicken toys

I hang bird seed block, suet blocks, broccoli, etc for them to entertain themselves with, especially during the winter or when they don't get to spend much time outside.

    Toys Inside the Run

A jungle gym would be a great idea. During the winter my chickens choose not to go outside. I occasionally have thought about some kind of chicken sized treadmill with some kind of treat at the front to keep them busy. If you are looking for something to entertain them, I hang a bird seed block...

    wife wants this question answered!

One thing to consider if you place the coop next to the garage is the possibility of rain/moisture accumulating between the two. Moisture may lead to rotting wood, carpenter ants, etc.

Any help, my hens are eating the siding off my house!!

Is the caulking the same color as the wood? If not, you could try using caulking that is the same color, or caulking that can be painted or stained. My thought is that if the chickens can't see the difference between the caulking and the wood they may not mess with it.

What kinds of treats do turkeys like?

It would probably be a much shorter to list the things they don't like. If was smaller than a car my turkeys would try to eat it. Once found a two in lag screw in the crop of one of them (had to hurt going down). Mine seemed to be particularly fond of foam insulation. They will also eat peanuts...

Very Bold, Very Persistent Red Tail Hawk

If you can keep the chickens penned and out of sight for a few days the hawk may simply move on, at least it has worked for me.

Can I leave the coop door open to the area underneath it?

Assuming you are getting chicks, once they are feathered out they should be fine having free access to the protected area under that coop any time. It looks like a nice coop, and well built.

    Chicken Run Question

I believe Arianna's is the run I was thinking of, and envy.

A falcon dive bombed my hens today

Speaking of beautiful, has anyone else noticed that when there is a difference in appearance between the male and the female of a species, the male is always the best looking???

    Chicken Run Question

A year or two back someone posted pictures of their chicken's run, which had suspended hardware cloth over some of the grass. I wish I could remember who it was, or something to narrow it down; but it was a very impressive run: large and nice looking - it was like a park for chickens.

My chickens seem to prefer their coop

I've heard this repeated as well, and don't believe it one bit.

    How do foxes get chickens?

They are good diggers, and can climb some. Oh, they can jump very well also. Make sure the top is protected. My preference is to lay a 3 foot wide piece of fencing on the ground all the way around the pen/run to prevent digging.

    Pressure Treated Wood???

I've never seen my chickens try to eat lumber. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in a coop.

    Christmas decorating

Good luck with the decorations. I hope your girls appreciate it more than mine. My girls pulled down the curtains from the windows and art work from the walls and pooped on them, so I don't think they'd have much regard for Christmas decorations.

    hens and snow

As far as feed, I give them the same pellets year round. I also give them table scraps and leftovers. To help break the boredom, I hang a bird seed block for broccoli for them to peck at. My girls went outside yesterday, some of them any way, for the first time since snow arrived. They stayed...

    Ventilation question

Does the wood on the roof meet at the peak, or is there a gap? Your roofing looks like Ondura panels. If so, the ridge cap probably has the foam spacers. If there is a gap in the wood at the peak, and you do have the foam spacers you could try removing some of them to create an opening. Maybe...

    Turkeys For 2013

Up until this year I always had bronze - I didn't think the whites were very attractive to live with. I always started out with 15 birds, but lost a third to half of my flock to raccoons. This year, I raised a few whites and three Bourbons for a total of 15, and lost none of them: I was turkey...

How to prevent mud in a sloped run?

Good luck with the mud. My chickens aren't a problem, but my turkeys create quite the mud/poop mess. The turkeys tend to want to spend all of their time in one corner of a large pen, which is sloped. They still create quite the mud pit. This year we had lots of rain this fall. I tried straw and...

How to prevent mud in a sloped run?

As I wrote in my first reply, I left them an area of sand to scratch and dig. They don't need to dig up the whole thing
