What did you do with your flock today?

I'm working on adding to my flock. I candled all 24 eggs, took out 4 that I knew were not fertile, and separated the ones I wasn't sure about, roughly a third of them. So, down to 13 that I'm confident about. They aren't hatchery eggs, just a backyard mix, but I'd like to be wrong about those...

    Dominique eggs!!

This is a breed that's been on my list of birds to get. I have to keep my birds in a run (long story) and I'd like a breed that will hatch their own eggs. Are Dominiques setters?

Hello FarmGirl, I know this post is old but you came up on a search. Do you still have Dominique eggs for sale?

    On Quail and Pheasant...

My husband and son love pickled eggs and so I'd use them for that. I've never had their eggs, thought. Are they similar to chickens?

    On Quail and Pheasant...

I know this may sound like a silly question but with as small as they are, do you ever regret starting with them? I watched one video that said their feed is pretty expensive compared to other feeds. I want the investment to be worth it. I've actually hunted quail. Around where I live, the...

Been a While but I'm Back

I have my incubator going ready to set 2 dozen, mixed flock, eggs. I waited too long and can't get the breeds I want for the hatcheries.

ISO Java or Delaware hatching eggs.

These are both breeds that I've wanted for a long time and I'm ready to hatch. Typically can't get Javas from hatcheries and I'm pretty sure that Delawares will be sold out through the summer by now. Does anyone have some that they'd be willing to ship? My plan is to have one breed or the other...

    On Quail and Pheasant...

I'm not sure this is the right place but here goes.... My plan is to add poultry/game to my freezer but I have no experience with game. I have processed before and the hubby is going to build a plucker. My question is on quail. Is the processing different? I seem to remember something about not...

Been a While but I'm Back

I started here 11 years ago and for a few years, was pretty regular. I post on occasion on FB but I haven't been here specifically, in probably 4-5 years. I haven't added to my flock in about 5-6 years and as I write this, I'm adjusting the humidity on my incubator to set a batch of 24 mixed...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Ameraucana

While Americanas have red earlobes, what about the Arucanas? I got EEs as part of my first batch of chicks 6 years ago and one of them has blue earlobes. Isn't that a Silky trait?

    Progress...

Much to my delight, this little hen I was given is making some progress. To make a long story short, she's had a vitamin deficiency since she was in the shell. Her biggest issue now is to get her legs functioning like they should. She has weakness in her legs that has given her an adult version...

    Nest boxes

I'm new to ducks this year. I have 5 Pekins, 3 ducks and 2 drakes. What is a good nesting box for them? They are in with my chickens but don't use the community nest box the hens use. They like to sleep in the run instead of the coop so I find eggs just sitting in the dirt. Also, can a drake...

    Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I had a couple young hens find me this last Sunday, came back from breakfast and they were hanging outside my duck run. Looks to be a fawn and a lavender. Didn't even know they came in lavender. How hard do you think it would be to find a drake that color?

Yes, they are still here. Never thought of them flying in. I put them in with my Pekins and everyone is getting along. They even like the pink kiddy pool. If they flew in, someone is missing some pretty snazzy looking girls. I've never seen a lavender Muskovy. They can't be more than a year old.

Whoops...still learning this newer set-up. Yes, they are still here. I put them in my run with my Pekins. They haven't been handled much but they seem comfortable in my little kiddy pool. Everyone is getting along alright. Never thought of them flying in.

    Chicken maladies....

This little hen has so many troubles, I don't know what to do. Her leg seemed floppy so I wrapped it in vet wrap just to give some support. Now that leg has lost some range of motion, her 'ankle'and hock won't straighten. Toes on her other foot are now curling. She's had trouble standing since I...

I found these two in my yard this morning. I love Muskovy ducks but have no idea where they came from. I currently have Pekins and have had Muskovies in the past. They are welcome to stay.
