I like having the adoration of my chickens, but I have one, a pretty aggressive hen, that thinks she can "summon" me whenever I am home. She is the only one that can fly over my deck fence. She does so, and then goes up the the door and goes "CAW CAW CAW CAW CAW CAW CAW CAW CAW CAW...." over...
I have been using feeders for my birds. They have the run of my backyard during the day, and are cooped up at night. I have one hanging feeder in the coop, and 2 feeders positioned in different spots in my backyard.
The feeder method I have been using is good because I do not have to worry...
The point is the neighbor fixed the problem, put up a fence, and tried to bring over some eggs to apologize and talk it out. Braley and his wife rebuffed the neighbor, threatened to sue, and tried to get the law changed.
His chicken owning neighbor that he threatened to sue was a democrat too, and an Air Force vet. He is an elitist snob chicken hater who wants to control other people's backyards. I'd go after him regardless of political party.
Bruce Braley, Iowa senate candidate, and his wife got really angry when a neighbor's chickens got in their yard. The neighbor put up a fence, and brought over some eggs and apologized. The senator and his wife rudely expelled them from their property and advised they already filed a formal...
Had a bird that was sick for a couple of days and then got better. But now it has "dirty" feathers around its vent from diarrhea, caked around it.
Should slap on some gloves, put the bird in soap water, and clean it off or just leave it?
That's actually pretty funny.
I might try it sometime with left over bird scraps. They have gone crazy over other kinds of meat, and when I had a bird killed by a hawk the other birds were picking at the carcass.
Hate that you have an egg eater. I have some RIRs in my flock but don't have that problem.
Mine always have plenty of layer ration but I also feed them lots of scraps. Maybe I have a picky eater that avoids the ration and just waits for scraps.
Got another soft egg this morning. Funny thing is that I know these birds have all laid good eggs before... have six birds and a while back I was getting 4-6 good eggs a day. Now I'm getting 3 good eggs and one soft egg.
If I had a bird eating eggs... well lets just say I saw this re-run...
Believe me - you are lucky to avoid this mess altogether. I love the mountains but , snow storms, ice, and power outages make me want to pack my things and head south of the gnat line sometimes.
Throwing out the whole bones for them to pick dry is a good idea, I'm going to start doing that.
Yeah I've been throwing out most everything, and they eat most everything. Even if they initially walk away from it, they will probably come back and finish it off later. Some large raw...
Yesterday I noticed, for the second time, one of my birds laid an egg without a shell (or more accurately, missing most of the shell and being mostly just membrane). It's the strangest thing. I took a picture of the first one. Other than this, production has been pretty good.
Anyone else...
I setup a heating lamp (red brooding light) in my coop. Going to have one day where the temp will get down to 7 deg. F. It is getting down to 25 deg F. tonight. (I live in Georgia) Forecast says it will only be low for about 3-4 days then it will get back up around/above freezing The light is...
