Hello all. I am fairly new to chickens and have a silly question. Well, I have two hens and a rooster that are all bantams. I believe they are all old english game bantams, but different colors. The rooster is a black tailed white. One hen who is cuckoo colored laid two eggs and then an all...
Well, there were no eggs as I only had one male. But apparently they do eat the quail too as I found a snake wrapped around him when I went to check on him in the afternoon. No clue how it got in, not really in the mood to investigate at the moment.
Just wanted to add another warning for predator proofing your runs/hutches. Today a snake somehow got in my quail's run and we got to him just a little too late. Pretty devastated.
Would something like this fan work for my quail's run? (We moved him outdoors now.)

I know this particular brand got bad reviews, but if I bought a 5 star one...
It's getting into the 90s here too and I'm worried about my quail overheating later. Where can you get misters? I searched online at homedepot and lowes but didn't see any. Thanks.
Sorry for your loss. :( Thank you for the warning, I hope it can be a lesson or wake up call for others at least. My husband recently built an outdoor run for my pet quail using leftover wood and chicken wire. Inside the run we revamped a small dog crate for a makeshift coop. He slept in the...
awww What a cutie. I have a rescued coturnix quail too. He's just a pet for me as well. His name is Casper. I'm new to keeping quail, so I would say go with dc3085's advice. Take him to a vet if you can. Sorry I can't be of more help, but good luck. Also, if you can get a rabbit/guinea pig cage...
As others have said 1sq ft per bird is the minimum recommended. If you can provide bigger though that is great. In my experience bigger is always better. I have one coturnix quail that is a pet and he is in an 8 sq ft rabbit cage by himself. (I want to get a few females later though) As far as...
Haha Yeah, mine does it all the time. It freaked me out a little the first time I saw him do it especially since he was sick when I first got him. He's healthy now and still does that, so I'm glad to know it is normal.
Yay! Finally got my major planting going this weekend. I planted zucchini, corn, watermelon, cucumber, dill, basil and transplanted a couple dwarf fruit trees. I'm so excited! I also a bunch of sunflowers coming up, I can't wait till they are full grown.
Sorry it took me forever to respond. I decided to go with a few dwarf fruit trees (peach, lime and maybe apple later) and just fence them off so my dogs can't get to them. Thank you though. I'll post pictures when I can.
I would like to plant more trees this year. We had quite a few small trees lining the border of our yard, but many of them died in the drought. I'd like to replace them with some small trees or decent bushes, but they have to be pet safe because my dog will eat any kind of leaf/plant. Anyone...
Oooh good tips, please keep them coming. I wish I could install misters, but my quail is indoors and we have no central a/c and the house is a rental, so we can't install anything permanent. :(
