Need Help Identifying Sex for JG and JG Banyard Mix

Awesome. Learned something new and helpful. Never heard this before. I have heard they can be more prominent in cockerels, but never assumed color played into that. So thanks for the info.

Need Help Identifying Sex for JG and JG Banyard Mix

Thank you so much for the quick response. I had noticed the pink on the JG too, but didn't know if that was a hard fast rule. That pic of the JG above looks almost identical to my current hens. I was trying to be optimistic. Sorry about the face shot for the younger JG, but you can see it...

Need Help Identifying Sex for JG and JG Banyard Mix

Hello, and thank you for looking. I'm having difficulty sexing my young chicks. Sometimes I think they are all pullets, sometimes I think there might be a couple cockerels in there, occasionally I think they may be all cockerels and I get real religious. This may be due in part by the fact that...

Awesome, thanks for the info. I don't have a facebook account, but I will see what I can see there, regardless. Thanks for the info. I will mark my calander for a month from now, and touch base with you again.

    Broody Hen Thread!

Okay, so I came home to find my hen had hatched out one of her eggs. She ended up leaving the other 3 eggs and took her baby out to forage for food. The baby was able to get down from the coop no problems. The other adults in the flock were curious, but the mom did a good job protecting her...

Hatching Eggs!!!: 40+ Breeds to choose from: Starting at $3/each

Hello. I like your selection of chickens, and all of the pictures I've seen are very nice. You have well taken care of birds. I think I may have missed it in your pictures, but I couldn't find any pictures of your Golden Cuckoo Marans. I was wondering if you could post pictures of your Golden...

A Free Ranger, anyone know of this breed?

That looks like a pheasant to me. Not sure of the breed, though.

What breed of chick is this? About 2 weeks old. Any guesses?

Cmolson, I'm interested to find out what those chicks look like now that they are all grown up. Do you have a better guess as to what they are now?

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Came home at lunch to check on my eggs. 3 of 4 have hatched. Not going back to work now. Lol. The Jersey Giant x Welsummer chick that has hatched is black on black on black. I'm interested to see how she grows up.

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I just heard something that sounded like a crack in the back room. Thought I was hearing things. Didn't see nothing, but I decided to check my eggs while I was back there. I can see 3 of the 4 have pipped and I could hear chirping. Really exciting, didn't expect to see anything this soon. And I...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Here is a link to my pics from last year. https://www.backyardchickens.com/g/a/6704856/3-days-old/ Welsummers have the "wild" gene so they will look like little chipmunks. They are also sex linked if they are pure bred. The females will have a very distinct triangle on their heads with clear...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Just candled at lockdown. Had to pull two that were way too clear to have developed. I opened them and they had not developed at all. No veining or anything, so most likely infertile. One of the four I have left doesn't look as developed as the others, but still a lot of shadow. So I have 3 or 4...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Thanks for all the info y'all. I moved her today when I got off work with minimal fuss. She was setting 5 eggs. I quickly marked them with an x in pencil. We will see if she returns. Off of all of the responses I got, I think I'm just going to leave her be, and make sure she is not adding...

    Broody Hen Thread!

I think one of my hens went broody. She is in the nest right now, and I only collected 4 eggs today. I've been collecting 6 to 11 eggs a day. I've never seen a hen in the nesting box at night, so I think she's trying to set eggs. I'll know for sure if I find her there tomorrow. Don't know how...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I candled my eggs today. All 6 seem to be developing. 3 are pretty much impossible to make anything out in because they are dark Welsummer eggs, but they have a cloud in them that they didn't have when they were set. I can see what I think is the air pocket in 2 of those, too. One of my EE's is...

The 6th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I set 6 eggs on Saturday March, 14th at about 10 a.m. 1 Jersey Giant, 2 Jersey Giant x Easter Egger cross, and 3 Jersey Giant x Welsummer cross. I'm excited to see all of them, but really interested to see the JG/ Welsummer cross the most. Good luck everyone! Edited to add photos.
