Ok- I'm going to a bird swap on Sunday (June 1) in search of ducks (CALL DUCKS), maybe chickens (and a peacock?) So I'm just like: WHAT BREED! Lol, experiences/preferences? Also, it starts at 7 and ends at 10 and by 8ish all the good stuff is gone :/ so its a buy-now type of thing and i need to...
Would grass (the grass in piles after you mow) be good bedding for ducks? Compared to wood shavings, at least. Would it be better for ducklings? It would be safer would it not?
Should I suspend my heat lamp from something or sit it on something? I have a cardboard brooder (for 12 ducklings) and I'm getting them soon, but what do i do with the heat lamp? I dont want a fire-hazard or anything like that, but nothing really to suspend it from unless i build something...
Hi guys! So i'm getting ducklings in about 9-10 days. 12 in total if they all hatch and here is the supposed breeds 3snowy call ducks and 9 cayuga/mallard crossbreed. I want to know any of your tips or tricks with ducklings and things that would help with them thanks!
So I heard in order to help keep ducks warm during winter, you should give them corn. So, what corn? Regular field corn? Sweet, cracked, canned or frozen corn? It might be a silly question, but I'm a silly person. Lol, insight needed. BTW- I live in Iowa so temps can get pretty cold.
I am getting ducklings soon, May 22 as the planned hatch date, and I would like to have them reside in an outdoor coop. The new ducklings will of course be delicate, so a very energetic dog isn't great for them. I have already taught my dog, Blaze, to sit and partially "leave it" and "eat Blaze"...
So I'm getting 12 ducklings May 22nd - thats when they are supposed to hatch (3 snowy call ducks and 9 cayuga/mallards)- and I've got a (hopefully) solid plan for their housing situation. I've calculated that it will cost $160-$170 total (5 sheets of 8x4 plywood, 7 8ft 2x4 and paint for $20-30)...
Anyone want to try and explain duck genetics for me? Lol, this is my situation: My uncle is giving me 3 snowy call duckling (still incubating, so gender unknown) and I THINK that they are from his two call ducks: but I have no idea what breeds they are. They could be gray calls, (mallard type)...
I am getting some new snowy call ducks and I am new to the mating/breeding so anyone know when ducks, or more specifically call ducks start mating and if they have a "mating season"? Anything helps
My uncle is incubating some eggs for me, and here is the info I have about them: 9 crossed with mallard and cayuga and 3 snowy call ducks (they are all calls I beleive) What will they look like and pics would help. thanks in advance!!
I recently read a story on BYC about somebody getting ducklings shippped to them, and when they got them one was dead on two died shortly after. I was thinking of getting some shiipped and was wondering if that would be dangerous. I don't want any little duckies to loose their lives by getting...
I've been searching high and low on the BYC website and many other websites for Magpie Call Ducks. Any able to help? I am searching for at least one male and one female.
How many eggs do magpie call ducks lay a day/week/year? I was looking to sell the eggs once they reach that age and wanted to know if they would lay enough to sell them by the dozen. Thanks :)
I am getting some ducklings in the near future. I would like to know some tips with brooder houses. Pictures would be nice since I am a visual person :) I would love some ideas and experiences from you guys!
