Hello, Hopefully I can find some answers here. I just returned from vacation and while I was away my wife was feeding and watering my quail for me. During the 8 days I was gone, I had 4 quail die and she couldn't explain any rhyme or reason for their deaths. When I arrived home yesterday the...
I've done a few incubations and every now and then I will get a chick (Quail) that will have his toes curled in. Is this caused by something I'm doing wrong during the Incubation period?
Thanks in Advance
Richard
Guys, thank you for your replies. An update on this, I've decided to not peruse this crossbreeding, I am excited about the Mexican Speckled and the CVQ babies I'll have coming in a few weeks though.
FYI... to shed some light on the Bob killing the Calli's. That isn't the case. We currently...
I am going to venture into a crossbreed of a Mexican Speckled Quail and a Californian Quail. Just because, no other motive, just cuz.
Now, my question regarding the crossbreeding. Which should be the roo?
From what I've read, the offspring will be sterile, correct?
Lastly... Is it possible?
Wow, this makes me a sad panda. I mean the numbers just don't add up to the point of where this is even remotely cost beneficial to raise these quail.
So basically selling flight conditioned quail at 22 weeks of age. = 5.5 months
150lbs of Feed per week = 600lbs per Month
600lbs x 5.5 =...
Hmmm, so if 50 Birds = 25lbs per Week and 300 Birds would equal 150lbs per week?
Man I hope that's wrong because that's like exactly the amount we're going through and I feel that is ridiculous amount of food.
My friend and I decided to build a couple of 40' Flight pens and raise some Quail this year for dog training, hunting and to sell the remaining quail to hunting preserves. I feel we are feeding them too much, I do not believe they should be going through as much food as they are going through...
This year my friend and I decided we would raise 400 or so Flight Conditioned quail to sell. Well, the quail are 20+ weeks old now, fully conditioned and it looks as though we have a buyer for them. We have only one small problem. What do we transport them in? Are there boxes out there that can...
I recently purchased 120 Chukar offline and incubated them. After day 10 I candled them and knew right away that there was going to be a low hatch rate because there were about 40 of them that didn't seem to be fertilized (Bright Yellow, no heart beat)
Anyway,
What bothers me the most is I...
I ended up purchasing another Incubator and kept it on standby until the first set of eggs needed to go on Lockdown, at which time I deployed the new incubator for "Lockdown Purposes"
This morning my 18 Online Eggs hatched out 16 baby Chicks and hopefully the other two are on their way as well!
So this morning 5 more had hatched and I pulled the plug on the other 4 that didn't hatch. I think I should have allowed them to incubate longer but felt they weren't going to hatch and made the decision, although I'm second guessing my actions now.
All in all I'm pretty happy with the hatch...
I had approximately 90ish Eggs in my Incubator and My 23 Day mark was on Saturday morning. I had two hatch Friday evening and all but 9 hatched on Saturday night, early Sunday morning. The 9 Eggs I felt were not going to hatch so last night I was going to clean out the incubator and had a chick...
I'm not exactly sure how many I set, probably 80 or so, all but 8 eggs have hatched so far and 15 chicks have hatched since the incident this morning. I'm going to leave those 15 in the Incubator until morning and if those 8 haven't hatched by morning then I will toss em.
I have another 120...
The good news is all babies are doing fine in the Brooder minus the one that drowned trying to save the other chick and although the Incubator Temp dropped to 89.5 while I was getting all of the chicks out of the incubator, 10 more chicks have hatched. There's only like... Make that 11 Chicks...
Well, that wasn't the thing to do, next time if that ever happens I will leave it be. I opened the Incubator to save the chick and when I raised the screen to get the little guy out about 5 to 6 of them ran under the screen and into the water troughs and as I was trying to get those out even...
