Thanks for the idea. I hadn't thought of that!

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Haha. I believe in that too, my husband is on the fence, lol. He works second shift and is paranoid he won't finish in time or money will need to get used elsewhere. I want a black Australorp, buff orpington, silver laced and golden laced Wyandotte, barred rock, Easter Egger and salmon faverolle.

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Thank you for the offer. So sweet! I picked the breeds I want and definitely went cold hardy. I'm sort of in the position right now where if I get them now they'll be just old enough for cold in January. I wanted to wait till my coop was done to get my birds in case of any snags on the building...

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

That's what I was confused about. In my mind I just keep thinking that any opening will be drafty and freeze my birds. It's like the one coop design thing that had me stumped.

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Thank you both! My main concern was if I needed to keep Windows closed, would there be proper ventilation for them. Yay, someone from literally in my area. How awesome. I grew up in Pottstown!

    Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hello Pennsylvania people! I'm fairly new and my husband and I are in the stages of planning our coop. I have a question about ventilation and drafts. We live in Southeast Pennsylvania so we get bad winters, how can I properly ventilate my coop without making it too cold for them? We won't be...

    Hi yell! I'm new.

Thank you all so much. My husband is looking to start my coop in the next week or so. He's hoping to be totally done mid August. I'm so happy

    Hi yell! I'm new.

Yeah sorry. I had looked through them but I must have skipped a portion of the pdf on my phone as I didn't see anything about the faverolles but when I went back and scrolled slower I found them.

    Hi yell! I'm new.

Anyone have faverolles? They're pretty cute and I've read they're docile. How are they in the cold?

    Hi yell! I'm new.

    Thank you! :)

    Hi yell! I'm new.

I definitely don't want to do this half assed which is why I'm researching like crazy. Can anyone tell me what Easter Eggers and wyandottes are like? My local farm has those too and their description says they're good in cold. Will they blend well with a mixed flock? Also just saw they have...

    Hi yell! I'm new.

I am torn between doing a small flock of just silkies, or doing a mixed flock of barred rocks, australorps and orpingtons. I live in Southeast Pennsylvania.
  13. CluckRockFlock

    Hi yell! I'm new.

I am so excited to start this adventure. Its all I can talk about and my poor husband has been getting a million pictures of chickens, coops and other various chicken things texted to him while he's at work. I think I've pretty much decided which chickens I want, now it's a matter of my husband...

    Hi yell! I'm new.

    Aww. I'm sorry!

    Hi yell! I'm new.

That's good to hear. I'm a softie underneath all of my tattoos and hard exterior and I keep picturing sad, scared little chicks being squished in transit.
  16. CluckRockFlock

    Hi yell! I'm new.

I was literally just looking at some orpingtons! A localish farm has a few different varieties of them. Speaking of, I would most like to buy my chicks local, but if I can't, do mail shipped chicks arrive okay? I feel weird ordering animals online.

    Hi yell! I'm new.

You guys are all so great. I really appreciate all of the advice. I love animals and above all I want to make sure I pick the right birds so everyone will get along and be happy in the weather here. Any ideas on which breeds are best? Especially from seasoned chicken owners. I'm not super...

    Hi yell! I'm new.

Thanks for your reply. I was on the fence about the Japanese bantam as I was having a hard time finding info on how they did in cold weather.
  19. CluckRockFlock

    Hi yell! I'm new.

I live in Southeast Pennsylvania. Near Philly. My shortlist currently has black Australorp, buff brahma, light brahma, barred Plymouth rock and maybe Japanese bantam. I really wanted a few silkies, but was concerned about others plucking their crests. I can always wait on my silkies and build...

    Hi yell! I'm new.

Thank you so much. I figured that a mixed flock would be fine, but I just wanted reassurance. I picked out a short list of birds I want, and so far all I've read seems to indicate that they're all docile, easy going breeds and should get along fine. Thanks so much for the links! I've learned so...
