If she looks like our Edith, then she is an Easter Egger. Ours are Whiting’s True Blue, but as someone said earlier, they are some sort of colored egg layer, which is selectively bred to lay blue eggs.
Here is Edith now:
Yes, this was my first try at hatching eggs. I figure 17 of 24 is a good number. Although I’m not sure what happened with some of them that didn’t make it. They were fully formed In the egg, but never hatched. :idunno I think there were three of them that did that. I checked temp and humidity...
Well, it has been over a year since I started this thread. A LOT of water has flowed under the bridge, and our girl, whom my husband named Edith, is definitely one of the Whiting’s True Blue hens. She has a really cool personality. Sometimes the way she comes and looks up at us, she seems to be...
Hmm, didn’t think of that. She’s still young, so I don’t expect eggs until January. I figured with the pea comb, that it was a pullet. As a wise friend, of mine, always says . .. ...... “Time will tell”.
That sounds like a plan. I have 4 Whiting’s True Blue pullets. So, if she is an EE, hopefully she will be laying a different colored egg.
I also have a WTB rooster, so if she starts laying colored eggs, I can put her in with him and his hens, when I separate them, before I incubate their eggs..
She may be deformed, but she is definitely not sick. She has a healthy appetite, lots of energy and holds her own, with the flock, in spite the fact that she is the smallest bird. She has spunk and we are really enjoying her. So much so, that DH has given her a name, and we don’t usually...
Oh, I wasn’t saying she was a quail. I was just saying I thought her body shape and size was closer to quail. I actually think she carries herself, and acts more like a chicken and her facial features are more like a chicken.
It WILL be interesting to see if she lays colored eeggs. These...
I think its called a pink walnut comb. Feet are more light, yellow orange.
The thing that keeps stopping me thinking she is an EE is how long it's neck is ...
... and how short & round her neck & body are.
Here is a quail pic, that I found online. Still not exact. But, I think closer than...
This past Summer, I bought an order of chicks from Murray McMurray. As they usually do, they sent a “free rare breed” chick. It didn’t take me too long to firgure out which one it was, because she was smaller than the others, and had a slightly different shape.
As she got older, it was...
Well, @Latestarter, I may have good news for you. I have found a local (East Texas) Vet, who actually owns Spanish Cross goats. I spoke to him on the phone and haven't had need to take my goats to him yet, but he sounds like he knows his stuff. I mainly wanted to make sure he would be available...
I just found this thread again and thought I would update what I learned.
These chicks turned out to be:
White Laced Red Cornish.
They are the smallest of our chickens, and lay a small, light brown egg, which tends to look more like a pullet egg, next to the large/extra large eggs our other...
Oh Tressa (@Tressa27884) I'm so sorry to hear that! We drove to Rockwall yesterday (Wed), and as we drove by the exit for Cooper, I thought of y'all and wondered how the move was coming. I even said a prayer for you and the kids. :hugs
