Hi everyone. Been a very long time. This is our 2nd year with Partridge Chanteclers. I love this breed. We used a 2x king heating pad setup this year. Our brooder is 4ft x 8ft long. Attaching photos.
Had some Plymouth Rock x babies in this bunch. They're the blonde ones. The purebred are...
During full molt, we were getting 7/9.
The Chantecler 's have not started laying yet.
Back to 9/9, but During our really cold winters, I change up the routine a little.
Heated water
LED rope lights in coop fromm 4am - 4pm
Deep litter bedding
Coop allows 10 sq ft/hen, no free range once snow is...
Well I get 9/9 from the Leghorns, with the occasional miss in extreme cold. Pampered pets, is what the husband calls them.
He loves watching chicken TV. Drags the chair out there to watch, and listen to them purr/coo, when he takes out the treats.
They love Saskatoons and Blueberries. Lol
Good to know. When days are shorter, the lights go on at 4am. Winters here have sundown at 4pm. I use led rope lights in the coop. Very economical, and more than bright enough. They get minimum 12 hrs of light per day.
With 17 hens, I should get at least a dozen per day. Hoping for more...
How many eggs per day are chickens supposed to lay? Someone tried to tell me that 2 eggs per day per chicken was the goal. My girls are a year old now, and lay consistent. 1 egg per chicken per day.
2 of my girls missed, when it was -40C, and I don't blame them.
But should they be producing...
On the subject of egg layers. I am quite new.
How many eggs per day do chickens lay? I was under the impression that they laid 2 eggs per hen, per day. Is this correct, or did someone misinform me?
My Leghorns are 1 year old now. They lay 1 egg per hen, per day. Mind you, only 2 of my girls...
Just set 26 Partridge Chantecler eggs. Hatch date will be May 04th. Gotta use camera and post pictures. Will start with one of the eggs. I am so broody right now. Feel like doing housework...
Try a wire rack, with 2x4 supports running front to back. 2 or 3 XL heating pads. I had those numbers last year, and it worked great.
Personally, it was too many birds. My freezer is still 1/2 full. Lol
My husband's family have d'Ucclets in Belgium. We have a few. All pullets. Porcelain, Blue, and Black mottled. Not breeding because I have not found the right roo. Thinking of importing some hatching eggs next year. New blood, and could be quite the investment. My husband was born near Uccle...
I am starting a smaller flock of 24 pullets and 3M roasters. The pullets will be from Virden MB, and the roosters will be from Lacombe AB. In the hatching eggs, any roosters from Virden will be sold to other breeders, after a hard cull. Any pullets from Lacombe will start a 2nd flock with...
Our new coop is being named "Fuzzy Butt Acre", because it is so large and will be stocked with 50 Partridge Chantecler pullets by the end of summer.
It could accommodate twice that, but I figured in the chicken math function. Lol
