Okay, I will not get an adult hen and stick to trying the chicks. We have raised chicks before. Will the broody be mean to other hens while raising chicks? And will she let us interact with the chicks?
Aach!! I have a year old hen who just went broody. We were considering about getting chicks, so we're wondering if we should put the chicks under the hen. But then we're worried that our other chicken (we used to have three) will feel lonely, so should we get an adult chicken as well, or just...
I have only one polish and she gets along fine with our other chicken. She was picked on for a little while because we had to reintroduce her, but thats all stopped. We called a vet and they said nothing was permenately damaged so we THINK that she's ok.
I am considering getting some new chickens and was considering buff orpingtons. Do they have a good tempermeant with other chickens and are friendly towards children? Or should I get something else?
My polish is almost a year old, and has never laid an egg. She was also attacked by a dog this Feburary. Should I be concerned, or is it normal for chickens not to lay eggs after a traumatic experience?
We bought our little chicks from a breeder, and we got a Polish, Wynadotte, and Red Star. The star and wynadotte are three weeks old, while the polish is two.
