    Sick flock

The Tylan seems to have done the trick with the lung gurgling and sneezing. The 5 youngsters seem like nothing ever happened. Its the adults that just cant seem to bounce back 100%. At least not as quick as the littles. Most are picking at the scraps i throw them, 2 I'm still syringing to keep...

    Sick flock

Looks like my father in law brought some infected chicks to my flock and now I'm paying the price. Its looking like MG. 14 birds in my original flock. About 5-7days after the chicks arrived, I noticed the gurgling, gasping for air, nasal discharge in only one pullet. After isolating that one, I...

    Stopped laying at 1 year.

They free range on and off, so no they aren't hidden. I kept them in the chicken yard for weeks just to watch her. This has been going on for such a while. I set up a deer cam for weeks. Nothing from her. So strange. No mites, either. They are fed Nutrina country feeds and i keep calcium...

    Stopped laying at 1 year.

Is that normal? I have a Rhode Island Red that began laying promptly at 20 weeks old. Great layer. Like clockwork, when she made a year old we haven't seen 1 egg since. This is about 6 months now and I'm not sure what to do. No signs of parasites. Heavy, healthy hen.

    Peritonitis?

Our large black austrolorp hen hasn't ever been a consistent layer. Huge egg, though. We've been noticing her laying less and less and now her last egg was Dec 5. We had found a couple soft shelled eggs before then and figured it was her. She does not eat the oyster shells. Only the egg shells...

    Bottom bulge

Received a hen from family. Unsure of age. She is rather large and black all over. Noticed a bulge beneath her vent. Upon checking it out. It is not squishy like other posts describe for hernias or internal laying, etc. It seems like almost a sack of rubbery marbles. ANY idea? She is fine...

    Gender help

We will be swapping the males out for pullets with my father in law. And yes, we were hoping the one missing head feathers was a girl bc we nursed her back to health after an older hen pecked her head to bloody skull. Thank you for the ratio info though! I did not know that.

Thanks, all! Cannot wait to find that first egg. How many have y'all picked from your current flock? (Just for fun. Rough estimate.)

    Gender help

We were given 2 reds and 2 blacks. My father in law said they are sex links. Can anyone confirm this and guess at gender? They are 16 weeks.
