I have 2 13 week old Mille de Fleur roosters as well as 1 black and grey bantam Silkie rooster all in need of new homes. I have too many roosters! We are keeping 2 but cannot have this many. They are free range currently and are healthy and living amongst a NPIP tested flock. I would like them...

Chicken with a weak neck! Help!!!

This is the second *case* of this in about 2 weeks. I have a flock of d'Uccles that are about 2.5mo old. All seem healthy, active and look good. About 2 weeks ago, one of them was sort of laying on the ground near the coop and could not lift her head at all. SHe did not appear to be in pain, but...

    Free Range Ducks?

I am a new duck owner and can't find much in in books... We have free range chickens in our yard, and added ducks to the mix. There is plenty of room for both :) We got 6 Khaki Campbell ducks about 2mo ago. No matter what I did I could not get them to go in their house at night. As a result...

    Ideal Poultry

Has anyone used them? How did your chicks do? I ordered 12 d'Uccles and rec'd them on thursday. As of this morning, *7* are dead, along with 2 of the 'packing peanuts'(extra chicks) those don't seem ike very good odds to me . This is not my first time with chicks and I didn't do anything...

    Chick walking funny...please advise!

I have 6 Millie de Fleur d'Uccles that are about 6 weeks old I think? One of the largest boys is having trouble walking/roosting. All the other chicks are roosting except him. He is eating and drinking fine, he will stick both legs out in front of him if you pick him up and he cannot roost on...

Mareks and now sudden death? What to do? :(

I posted recently about culling, as I had 2 chickens with Marek's I had to put down, after a 3rd died (on her own). This morning, I went out and found one of my silkie's dead on the bottom of the coop. She is over a year old, and yesterday was fine...as far as I can tell. It looks like she...

    Sensitive subject...culling :(

Based on what I have read...I believe 2 of my chickens have Marek's, and the girl we lost 2 weeks ago most likely had it as well. I believe my brother/sister d'uccles came to me with it as they were never 'right' and then my mutt roo(who was part of their possee) is now suffering from it. It...

Please help! My daughter is so upset!!!

I posted about my mutt roo(6mo) with the leg issue...he is now sort of sitting with it out in front of him, puts no weight on it at all. I think he is ok otherwise, he is eating and drinking, and I have him isolated...could his leg be broken? If so, what do I do??? Also, we just lost my...

    Really strange...

My mutt Roo has a couple of odd things going on. He has had brownish loose poops for a few days. Starting today, he had been limping and not even wanting to put wuch wt. on one leg. When I picked him up to check him out he seemed like he was 'gulping air', is the only way I can think of to...

    Dominique???

I bought this lovely gal(guy) at a chicken swap in June. I was told it was a 4wk old Bantam Dominique hen. FOR SURE, that is what it is. Well...I am not so sure. No crowing yet, but (s)he has pointed neck feathers just like my Roo, and (s)he has pointy back(saddle?) feathers as well. WHat do you...

2 Roos, one flock...what to do?

Here is my back story... I have 7 hens, who are about a year old now. One of my hens hatched out a few eggs, of which 2 we kept and ended up with a roo who was previously thought to be a hen. In the mean time, thinking the 2 babies were girls, I got an additional 4 'babies', one of which was a...

I might be overreacting, but... :( please advise!

I got 2 adorable Lavender D'Uccles mid June at a swap. I am guessing their ages to be somewhere between 12-14 weeks, though they are tiny little things. A roo I named Sam and a hen named Angel. I got 2 other chicks at the same time. I kept them separate from my flock for about 3 weeks, though...

    Heat and egg laying

OK, I am sure I am not the only one... My chickens, 7 of whom were active egg layers all but gave up their duties at the onset of the rediculous heat-wave-that-would-not-end. I understand that they won't lay in the heat, though my one EE layed all through the heat and is still going strong. We...

    Sexing chickens

I have been reading with great interest these threads where y'all are able to figure out who is a boy/girl. I have a few questions. I have a bunch of mutt chickens as I had a RIR cross roo and silkie and cochin hens. Well, we have babies that are a mix of those! I know one is a silkie as it has...

    Chicken mama and egg laying

My Silkie hen hatched 6 eggs(only one of them hers, lol) and is a wonderful mother. But, I was wondering when she will start to lay eggs again? Right now the chicks are 3 weeks old. I still have them living in a separate 'house' for the night but they free-range during the day with my other hens.
