I'm going to be processing some of my older hens and the roo. I have replacements in the chick coop. I do have a small pen in the chicken run that I normally would put the pullets & roo into to introduce them in. But, with processing over half of my flock I'm really going to be upsetting the...
My neighbor has two silkie/EE cross chicks. If one is a pullet I can make a trade with her for it. I would like a silkie for a broody as none of my girls seem to know how to go broody. But, we are unsure on how to tell the sex with silkies. Please, help us.
Here is the little grey one.

DH was cutting hay yesterday and uncovered a nest of wild baby bunnies. None were hurt that we can tell. He watched while cutting for momma but, didn't see her and she was killed. We left the babies in the nest over night and checked them a little while ago. They are making crying noises so, it...
I have a chick that's only a few days old that acts like it is trying to cough something up. They are on wood shavings with paper toweling over top but, they had pulled back a corner of the toweling and dug around. I'm wondering if this little one has a piece stuck.
I have tried gently...
I have a separate coop for my chicks. It has it's own run which we hope to complete the top on this weekend so they can go out.
My question is: As long as they can go back inside to the heat lamp at their own choosing, what age can I let them out into the run?
Then once they are allowed into...

My neighbor's hatch started on Monday and is still going on. She has 12 chicks and 13 eggs left. They were due on Tuesday, all set at the sametime, in the same incubator. When I candled them at day 14, or was it 15, they looked to be the same stage.
Has anyone else had this happen? Anyone know...
This little one hatched yesterday after pipping on the wrong end and getting help with zipping. Her one foot is turned inword. I'm wondering if there is something I can do or will she learn to walk on it and be okay? Now she will tip over when moving around but, seems to be getting less tippy...

Tomorrow is day 18 for my chicken eggs. I decided to candle tonight so I could do it with the room good and dark. Some of the eggs are looking right where they should and others look to be only halfway? This whole hatch has been disappointing. I set 42 eggs. Ended up 6 were clear. I'm down to 13...
We had a sad Saturday morning as Peanut's rabbit (Frosting) broke out of the pen and one of the cats killed it. DH has promised another rabbit for her. We stil have Kute Kittens rabbit (Sandy). Frosting and Sandy were litter mates that shared the same pen. It's a 6' x 6' dog kennel convererted...
I'm making a lap quilt that measures 60"x60". My backing material is 45" wide. I know from the reading I've done that I don't want to put the seam down the middle. So, I'm wondering do I leave one piece at 45" and then split the difference (15+ seam allowance) onto both sides? Or do I put that...
It was on the radio this morning, that the goverment is going to put a 300% tariff on the cheese (made in France) they use to make blue cheese dressing. It goes into effect April 23rd. So, if you are a blue cheese dressing person you may want to buy ahead.
Well, it's finally the time of the year I can hatch eggs again! When I put my incubator away last year it was clean and sanitized (both sun and bleach). I'm wondering what I need to do with it this year before I set it up and get it running for eggs? Our temps are suppose to be around 50 with...
