I am going to let my broody hatch fertile eggs this time around. She has been sitting on three wooden eggs for a few days now. I would like to change them out for four fertile eggs.
Are there any tips or tricks to the process?

So, I am comfortable raising the big girls and am taking my first step into the bantam arena with five tiny day-old girls scheduled to arrive this spring.
What should I be aware of in terms of any special needs that are specific to thier size? Thanks.
Just wondering...for those of you who have a "house rabbit"...Do you give your bun outdoor time?
If yes, how much and under what conditions?
If no, what other things do you do to provide the same type of stimulation?
Thanks in advance for sharing.
Was just reading about a pair of house quail birds and it got me thinking...
- How many folks out there actually have house quail?
- Do you keep a pair or more?
- Which breed would work best for this?
- Is it even a good idea?
- Would it be possible to tame them to the point that you...
Sorry for shouting at you, but I had to tell someone and I knew you'd understand.
Thanks to everyone for the helpful advice - you really made it any easy decision to take the plunge. I ended up adopting an adult male from a local shelter. He was rescued a while back from an abusive...
What is the best way to get a new bunny?
Is it best to find a breeder or adopt a local rescue? I am not really concerned with getting a particular breed, just looking for a good fit with a new pet.
What is the best age to get a bunny in order to form a nice bond with it?
I am leaning toward getting an older bunny, but want to be sure that we can still become buddies.
So far I have chickens and cats. Blame it on my upcoming empty nest, but, more and more I find myself daydreaming about what's next.
What animals do you have besides chickens, and how well do they get along with each other?
Why is everyone so quick to want to know...roo or not?
I live in the suburbs and have to re-home my roos once they start crowing - but until that moment, I love to live in ignorant bliss and enjoy my short, sweet, precious time with my boys.
I'll start...chicken poo, pine shavings, cut grass, raked leaves, plant trimmings, carrot tops, squash peels, spinach past its prime...
What else ? Your turn

Looking for advice on how to remove a spiral leg band from a young (3-day old) chick.
Just added her to a brooder of 7-day old chicks and everyone is getting along great - except her siblings seem to object to her bling. It looks like removing it might be a two person operation? I have never...
Bantam, Standard, Large Fowl, and Giant?!
Are these all different sizes of chicken - or do some of these terms mean the same thing? Is there really a "giant" size? What are the qualifications?
OK, the time has come. She has been broody for long enough to break me - she gets to be a mom, via "magic chicks" tonight. I plan to slip her the day-old chicks tonight under cover of darkness.
Any tips on how to make this a successful experience for everyone are welcome. Thanks!
