    ISA Browns

Hello. With Chick days in progress. I wanted to pass along our experience the last 5 years with our egg layers. We bought 6 Isa Browns to start our flock for eggs. Along the way, we added a few Buff Orpingtons, Salmon Favorolles and a Easter Egger. The Isa Browns started laying between 4.5 and...

    Isa Brown not laying eggs

    Sorry 2.5 years.

    Isa Brown not laying eggs

That is incorrect information. Ours are about to turn 3. We have 13 isa browns. 8 to 11 eggs per day. We had to bump them from 16% to 22% at 2.5 yes. The constant laying and feather replacement takes a lot of energy.

    ISA Browns & Golden Comets

Ours are about to turn 3. This winter they went through a molt. Their egg production all but stopped. Had raised them on Purina 16% layer. The molt was brutal on them. I changed them to 22% layer. The change was amazing. Their new feathers look like they did when they were young. When yours get...

    New Chicks

Will do. Another thing we love about the Isa's, is they follow us around like a dog. Very docile and good with our nephews.

    New Chicks

We just received our order from Tractor Supply. First time to have chicks delivered so we didn't know what to expect. I called our post office to let them know the chicks we're on the way. Phone rang at 6 am yesterday to let me know the package had arrived and there was loud peeping coming from...

    Ameraucana vs EE question

I returned 2 Faverolles that turned out to be boys Saturday. Thanks to the help from everyone letting me know they were boys. In the process of swapping the Faverolles I thought I might as well get a few more. Bought 2 that she said we're Ameraucana. Reading about them I see that the Ameraucana...

    Faverolle help

That's what I was worried about when I saw the black. Might call the hatchery and see if she will swap them. Wanted to give a local business a shot first Thanks

    Faverolle help

Here are a few more pics I took with my camera. Should be better. There is a small amount of brown and black on it so that was why I asked. I had a mis-sort last summer, and it turned out to be a faverolles rooster. I liked the way it looked so I went to a local hatchery for these. Thanks again

    Faverolle help

Bought these 4, two weeks ago. Need an opinion on one of them. I believe 2 are hens and 1 is male. The one on the left in the back is who I am wondering about.

    What breed is this

Alright, but he isn't going to like it. Thanks for your help.

    What breed is this

Can I get another look at this creature. Almost 2 months old. Previous opinion was a Cockerel. If it is he will go to my homesteading neighbor. As he tells me "we don't have pet chickens". He grows them for meat. I enjoy the eggs but not going to lop the head off, clean and eat one. The reason I...

The unofficial 'official' BYC solar eclipse thread

We were in the path of totality in my part of Tennessee. The cows and chickens did not flinch. Took a picture through my eclipse glasses.
