Sorry, it took me so long to get back to the matter at hand. I'm pretty sure my "duck" is a Drake. Now I'm just not exactly sure what breed "HE" is? Any advice or suggestions would help. Here are Pics of HIM.
Can ducks have the male curl (like a genetic defect)? Like a hen with spurs? (which isn't common but not unheard of).
I'm suppose to have a breeding pair of welsh harlequins but the duck has me pondering.
I know Toulouse are a dark meat bird. My question is, are all geese a dark meat? If not, which ones are a white meat? Will take all the info, I can get.
Is anyone else burnt out on turkey and ham?
I have a white rock hen, that had large waddles and combs at that age. I swore up and down that it was a roo!! Oh Boy, did she through egg in my face!! She's my best layer and occassionaly she'll lay a double-yolker for me!!!
I had a holstein calf that gave me and my husband fits. We had to get him to drink from a bucket. Will he suck on your thumb? Or your fingers? If he'll do that, you can get him to drink from a bucket.
I use shredded paper. Once it gets soiled, it goes to the compost bin. One of my speckled sussex hens has decided that none of the nest boxes are good enough for her. She will actually pack the shredded paper to "her special place" and use it to build her nest with..

Sad to say, Ideal doesn't have as much of a selection in runners like eFowl does, though.
Not trying to bad mouth Ideal poultry at all!!!
Ideal is a good poultry to buy fowl from. I really like them!!
I hate hearing that!!! I was thinking about placing an order with them for the silver and mallard runners. Looks like I'll have to try to find them somewhere else.
The medical term is Omphalitis and it is most commonly caused by Escherichia coli bacteria combined with Staphylococcus aureus, Streptoccus faecalis and other bacteria. Once they have it, there's no getting over it and it spreads pretty fast (about 1 to 2 days).
You could also put Iodine on it and it will keep the others from pecking at her. There's even some articles about it @ backyardpoultry.com (pecking/cannibalism)
