Wow! I'm sorry to hear about your chickens. It is devasting. We never had issues and then during daylight a fox came. :( good luck hope you catch the culprits!
Yes he is digging under the yard fence. We had a recent wind storm and tree fell so that part of the part of the fence had a small area for him to dig under. There are also two other spots around the yard where he was scratching. I have to get rid of him before he takes out the rest.
I made them an a dust bath area in an old tire. Today is the first time I have seen them roll in the mud in random spots in the yard. I thought maybe it was stress from the other chickens being taken by predators yesterday but I guess this is their dustbath maybe? I've never seen them do this...
Thanks all of you for your kind responses. Once we isolate the problem we hope to have more chicks in the future. Although now I have to research if old and new chicks adapt well together. Have a good day :)
Thank you for the information. Sounds to me like a fox from the descriptions. I hate the fact that it will be coming back. Thanks for the information I really appreciate it.
I've had my chickens for over a year. Today in broad daylight 3 of the 6 were killed. I only see the feathers and after inspecting the yard I see something scraped under the fence. My heart is broken, they were the sweetest birds. I put up a camera because I assume
Whatever it is will be back...
