    Bald Head?

I have eleven Australorp hens and one rooster. They are six months old. One hen seems to be going bald. I *think* she is being picked on. Haven't caught them in the act, so not sure. What do you think? What should I do?

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

Are you in Paulding County as well? Symptoms: Well, she's clearly the last in pecking order. The others always chase her away. She also has a bald spot on her neck where Roo was a little rough with her when she wasn't ready to mate - only 14 weeks old at the time, 18 weeks old now. But that's...

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hi Granolamom! I'm in Paulding County too and I am VERY new to this chicken thang. I have 11 Black Australorp hens and 1 rooster. 18 weeks old. One is acting ... not well. I'm worried about her, but also don't want her to spread anything to the others. Do you know of a vet who will treat chickens?

    Skin Conditions

Always wondered about the efficacy of DE. Ants in garden don't like it, for sure, but it doesn't control them. Would the permethrin based product work as a preventative as well as a "killer?" I'm not 100% sure they have a problem at this point, but want to prevent one from occurring.

What do I do about it? I already have DE everywhere in hopes of preventing them! :-(

    Skin Conditions

I wasn't sure where to post this thread. Hope I'm not "off topic!" I don't know if something is wrong with my hen or if this is normal. One of my 12 eight-week-old Black Australorps has "not-normal" looking feathers on her back right at her tail. Almost looks like a fungus under her feathers...

Histoplasmosis !!! Please read !!! Important for all !!

Did she wear a mask? Is wearing a mask the ONLY preventative action? What else should I do?

My son sprinkled feed all over the ground in the run! Mold??

I DO have mold on the ground in my run. The run gets no sun, and it is super humid here in Georgia. Plus, we've had a lot of rain lately. What should I do? I need solutions for present mold and preventative ideas as well. I avoid going in there now because my masks haven't come in yet and I have...

Histoplasmosis !!! Please read !!! Important for all !!

Thank you! Will get that one when my disposables are gone. I have asthma too, and something has really messed with it since I moved the chicks to the coop. Just learned about histoplasmosis yesterday and wonder if I have it. :(

Histoplasmosis !!! Please read !!! Important for all !!

New to the chicken scene. What mask do you recommend? I just ordered "Gateway Safety 80502V TruAir Vented N100 Particulate Respirator." But it comes in a pack of 5, so I assume they are disposable. I think I'd prefer reusable. What do you use/prefer?

    Glad to be here!

I just started my very first flock of backyard chickens and have so many questions! Googling the questions repeatedly brought me here, so I signed up. I have twelve 6-week-old black australorps. I ordered all hens, but suspect I got a rooster too. I'm ok with that. I also have a vegetable...
