can you post an update? I just rescued two of these chicks that were abandoned for the winter, not sure on exact age but guessing 6 weeks ish. Your chicks comb looks very reddish for that age if I were to guess but everyone is saying pullet?! Fingers crossed for you!
Jumping on this thread and asking again what to expect when crossing partridge with white silkie? I know the colours won’t be true but what’s the general idea? Or is it really a toss up b/c white can carry any gene or so I’ve read....
I have an 8 week old chick that has been making a funny chirping sound as it constantly tries to poop but struggling/nothing comes out. Poops are watery and white and bum is now messy from it. Looks like maybe his vent is protruding more than normal or maybe swollen...not really red or...
I have two silkie crossed cockerels that I am keeping this year and will be mixed with a few other bantams and a lot of standard birds. I’m wondering come spring when I hatch if I will be able to tell which chicks have silkie genes in them based on the toes? The silkie cross boys have 5 toes...
the Isbar x legbar (Ice cream bar) Has started laying a sweet blue egg. Definitely a nicer blue than the chick hatched from so I’m happy with that!
The Isbar x ameraucana is only 3 months so will try to update when it lays as only the blue one ended up being a pullet
I’ve hatched some ice cream bar chicks from a breeder that is a crested cream Legbar rooster over an Isbar hen. I know that this breeding isn’t guaranteed sex linked b/c the rooster is barred, but if the chicks have head spots does that mean they are for sure boys? And what is not reliable is...
Thank you so much for your response. It did turn out to be a cockerel! The dark stripe really through me off b/c I thought this was a sign of Legbar female (I know mine are a cross, but thought it would follow same rules...). So now I’ve hatched another similar and wonder what you think? Looks...
did you end up getting azures? If you’re from Kitchener there’s bound to be some legbars or ameraucana near you. I’m north of Toronto and everything is out your way. I know a great breeder in Milton and several near Guelph if you need some contacts. There’s a breeder here who has some Azures...
I have a couple broody hens in my coop sitting on eggs, and even tho there are still several nest boxes one of my other hens has started laying in the corner of the coop. The rooster then stands beside her as if you guard her from the others. I imagine this is just him protecting that girl in...
I know this is a bit old, but so you have any pictures of your Barnevelder roo over CL hen? I would love to see any if so as I’ve hatched this cross, thought she was a sexlinked female but now has me worried with a large comb. I’ll post a pic of mine here at 1 and 3 weeks. If no pics no problem:)
This was mine around 6 weeks starting to show some pink and waddle and then by 8 weeks was fully obvious roo. At 5 weeks I still thought it was a pullet with no pink and a fairly similar comb as the others. So give it a couple weeks and you’ll know!
This is one of my first silkies (it’s a crossed silkie) and I’m not sure about it....pink waddles coming in at 6 weeks but I have two others who are obvious boys so🤷♀️
The white is the one in question and blues are boys...
Thanks, going to keep him for sure!
Here are a few of the Ameraucana x Isbar at 4 weeks old.
The splash chick is a blue Isbar over splash ameraucana hen. I think this one is a roo unfortunately. All the splash chicks I’ve hatched so far end up being boys:(
The blue chick is blue Isbar over...
Sure, I can take some updated pics today of the ameraucana cross.
Here is the Legbar x Isbar cross pullet who is getting beautiful lacing around her neck (the pic doesn’t do her justice). And the Legbar x Isbar cockerel who had a spot on his head at hatch, so the cross is autosexing!
Some of this thread is old but thought I'd add rather than create a new one. I have a couple of hens with this bare belly also and haven't seen signs of lice or mites. Two of them with bare belly's look like they picked their own feathers perhaps as there's no irriration or sign of bugs, dirt...
