I have a 7 month old hen who suffered a severe pecking Injury (the entire top of her head/almost to the bone) over the Memorial Day Weekend. On May 29, when we discovered the injury, she was isolated and removed from the flock. We administered Vetericyn Plus immediately that day. For the...
Checked on her this morning before work, and all is well! She's up walking around with everyone else like nothing ever happened. I'm thinking now that she must have gotten caught up in the rooster fight somehow. So thankful that she is good now. Thanks everyone!
She is about 4 years old
Isa Brown Hen
No discharge at all from eyes, nose, or beak
Poop is normal. She lays every day.
I kept her in a kennel until bedtime. She seems fine now. I got her out, she stood up, and ate a few worms and a June bug. I checked her over good and then took her back to...
I let my flock out this afternoon and all was fine with my chickens. I heard two roosters fighting do I went over to break it up and discovered one of my hens laying on the ground behind them. She acts very sleepy and cannot stand. I've given her water and she will eat mealworms, but acts like...
I am sorry! Same thing happened to me this week. I have a Mama Hen with 3 ten day old chicks. I've been checking on them twice a day. Yesterday I opened up the coop door, and there was a big chicken snake in the coop. I grabbed it by its tail and slung it out. I tried to find something to kill...
I have a broody hen that was sitting on 8 eggs. One egg has hatched but not the other 7. Mama hen has been out with her baby. How long should I wait until I throw the other unhatched eggs out?
I have a broody hen that is in an existing coop/run (about a 8' x 20') with 5 other hens and one well mannered rooster. One of her eggs hatched and I found the baby dead on the ground yesterday afternoon. Not sure what happened. So , I tried to move her to another smaller coop close by last...
I haven't noticed any worms. I don't think I've ever wormed them. Had them about a year. She's in a flock of 7 and all of the others seem fine. However, there's been 2 hens that have been broody and seem to be picking on her some when I'm in the coop with them. Maybe she's stressed. Should I...
My Silver Laced Cochin appears to be pale. Her comb and wattles are not as bright as my other hens. Her droppings appears just like water sometimes. However, she seems to act fine and not sickly. What should I do?
They are in separate coops/runs now, and are not in visible distance. The combining coop with run is approximately a 10 x 20 ft run with 2 rows of nesting boxes outside and a 4 x 5 attached coop with 3 nesting boxes.
Thanks!
I have a one year old her (Brown ISA), that I am wanting to integrate into a co-op and run with a newer flock of 5 hens (Wyndottes and Cochin), and 1 rooster (Black Laced Wyndotte). They are all approximately 6 months old. What is the best and appropriate way to do this so that is doesn't cause...
Well, my hen had several other similar instances of being lethargic and having the same symptoms as before. She has always recovered, but not the last time. I lost her. Not sure what was wrong with her, but she had never started laying eggs. So sad.
I am a newbie Mom to a small flock, and I have a few questions.
1. What is the best routine for your flock management as far as worming, vitamins, probiotics, vaccines, etc. and how often?
2. What is the best thing to use to keep ants out of your coops that is non-toxic to your babies?
Thanks so...
I ended up not caging her overnight because it was late when I got home, but the next morning she seemed to be acting a little better. She was up walking around some. I picked her up, gave her some Gatorade and made her a scambled egg. She loved it! I put back down, and she acted more normal...
