    Duckling aspirated

So, the clicking is back now. He's eating and drinking a little on his own, but still weak. As soon as he's done eating he goes right back to his fleece bed and sleeps.

    Duckling aspirated

Thanks for replying. He seems a little better this morning, no clicking at least. He couldn't use his right leg. I think he was crushed by the other ducklings during shipment. I straightened out his toes by taping a guitar pick to his foot for a few days. Now, he can put some weight on it and is...

    Duckling aspirated

I have a 2 week old pekin duckling that I have been nursing back from a leg injury. He's been making great progress and I put him in a very shallow tub of water a few times to help him strengthen the bad leg. Last night, he dunked his head twice and I think he's aspirated. He was fine when I put...

3 week old chick deformed leg

How did your chick make out? I have one with the exact same problem and am looking for advice. I am torn between trying to help and euthanasia.

Bargain Day old chicks review from Meyer Hatchery

Thanks for sharing your experience. My chickens were all special needs or unwanted chicks, so I can relate to your sense of discovery and interest in learning about them as you go. Good luck with your birds and I hope you didn't get too many roos ;)

Treats for 5 week old chicks

I give my chicks hay to scratch in and eat when they are about a week old, along with free choice grit. Its the cutest thing to see them get so busy. If you think about chicks hatched in their "natural habitat", they will eat right along with the hen, so why not let them do the same in a cage...

    What's your flock's favorite treat?

Sardines, only because they don't get them often. They go insane!

What would you say are the BEST tempered, GOOD laying, NICE looking hens?

I have 2 leghorn hens. I don't have a lot of birds, so all my chicks got a lot of attention from an early age. The leghorns are the most affectionate of all my hens. I would say that any breed that is raised with lots of human interaction will be friendly.

    Budgie Eggs!

Hopefully the news is that your birds have better living conditions, as in large flight cages with natural substrates and perching instead of tiny barren wire boxes.

Will a small animal (like a hamster) water bottle work for chicks?

I've used those bottles before with some success. As with any waterer, make sure the chick knows what it is and is drinking enough. When given the choice between the bottle and a dish, though, my chicks have always preferred the dish. Since my bottles always drip, I put a small dish under it to...

    Outside covered run bedding.

I get the sand tubes from Lowes and spread it in my run. Probably not the most economical way to get construction sand, but it works for me right now. The texture is perfect. It packs enough to keep it where it is, allows the girls to scratch, easy to rake and sift the poop out. I tried play...
