Hi This hasn’t happened yet but want to be prepared for when it does. I have a lovely red silkie pair who are producing great fertile eggs. My question is what do I do if Mrs silkie goes broody? Do I leave her in with Mr Silkie or do I need to move her? Will he be ok on his own if so? Not...

Hoping for a Buff Orpington Cockerel

Hi So I’m hoping to get some fertile eggs this year from my Buff Orpington mini flock. I have 3 hens and what I think is an unrelated cockerel. He has developed a red comb much earlier than the others but just doesn’t exhibit any male behaviours. He’s bottom of the pecking order and doesn’t...

Cockerel doesn’t know what to do

So I have this beautiful red silkie cockerel who is 9 months old. He is in with 2 hens of around the same age but only 1 is laying. The issue is, he doesn’t seem to know how to do his job very well. He grabs the hens head from the front and proceeds to mate with the floor in front of her. Will...

Any idea what colour this silkie will be?

This is a one of a kind out of quite a big hatch of silkies from paint parent. And idea what colour this little one will turn out? I know it’s pure silkie but not sure what underlying colour genetics are involved. Thanks in advance!

    2 x Awful Hatches

    No sign of unzipping

I’m a newbie and very anxious I know that chick are supposed to hatch 24 hours after pipping. What I don’t know is what counts as a pip? 7pm last night I noticed a crack in the shell. Chick opened it up and stuck her beak out from around 10 am this morning and has been moving plenty but is...
