    Bumble foot question

Hi; How long have you been dealing with it? It is not too swollen but I think if you can soak the scab off with some warm water and epsom salts and see if you can get any pus out and get some medicine up into contact with the flesh it would heal faster. Good luck. Sassafras

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Got our first egg in about two months today. They get light from 6AM to 6PM, which I know isn't enough but I can do the chores after work with light,

i dont know how to handle easter eggers.

Hmm, I have 3 EE's. Two don't really care for people and one is super friendly, BUT the super friendly one had someone beat her up once and she is paranoid of who is around her. I found that if I trim her cheek feathers down to where she can see things better she is much less freaked out.

    The chickens have spoken...

Hi SoManyHats; The organic feed looks like it is a whole grain mix, almost like scratch. It does look tastier. Let us know how they like it in a few weeks or if they pick out the different grains.

What do you wish you had known before you got your chickens

I wished I'd known about bumblefoot. But the joys of my chickens outweighs the hassle.

    Sevin dust

Look up Sevin on wikipedia. You won't want to touch the container, never mind use it on an animal. Here is some of what is there. Carbaryl (1-naphthyl methylcarbamate) is a chemical in the carbamate family used chiefly as an insecticide. It is a white crystalline solid commonly sold under...

    crop bound need help!!

I went through something similar last year. It took days of soft food (bread soaked in olive oil, yogurt, scrambled eggs with some butter or oil) and massaging the crop to work it out. Don't panic.

should I continue to rearrange chickens on perch so Lilly can get the spot she wants?

I feel your pain. I have a hen I need to remove from the nest box every night and put on the roost cause she can't stand the bickering period when everyone is getting settled.

Strangulation in tongue mimics Wet Fowl Pox. (An important lesson learned)

I am sure it was very hard for you to tell that story but you did it trying to help all us other folks and our chickens. It is amazing what animals of all types will try to eat. Thanks for warning us.

    Depressed chicken...what's wrong? Pictures included

Sometimes molting takes a long time. She is probably lethargic because she is so malnourished. I had one who got very skinny like that and I needed to give her separate feedings of things like scrambled eggs pieces of bread, anything to stimulate her appetite. Eventually she snapped out of...

Does anyone have experience with vetericyn??

I have a friend who used Vetrycin on a very badly injured hen (hawk attack) and she said it worked great. I have used it for bumblefoot ad it seems to work as good as Neosporin.
