Put it out of it's misery or ?

Bad attack in coop last night. One lady gone, one, severly bitten in thigh, open flesh wound, not walking. Should my DH put her out of her misery or just wait? I believe it was a raccoon pulling them through fence. NOt sure why they were near fence since their roost sits in the middle of...

Do you eat eggs from a sick hen?

I had a hen who was under the weather last week. Diarrhea/pus, almost thought she was a goner. Now, she's better and another seems, *Under the weather*. That said, there are eggs in the coop. Do you eat an egg from a sick hen? They look ok from the outside, but I wonder about bacteria on the...

When is it humane to put them down?

I have her in a seperate crate with food and water to see what she passes. She is like a little pet, but finances do not allow DVM interaction. Knowing me I'll keep her till she either gets better (or doesn't). She did peck at a strawberry and I'm making some noodles for her (their fav treat)...

When is it humane to put them down?

I have a sick hen. She's been this way about a week. I tried the egg bound suggestions (no luck) and now I'm beginning to wonder if she nedds to be put down? What's more humane? I have no idea how old she is (if anyone remembers I rescued her from being in a pen with 8 roosters). Been straining...

will the other ladies stop laying too? They tend to lay in same place so I would have to mark the fertile eggs for sure.

    My girls are happpy!

SO the ladies are happy. The neighbors are helping feed yummy snacks in exchange for eggs and the girls are beginning to lay really well. I have one little Banty that is broody and likes to snuggle eggs. We have no rooster, so nothing will hatch (poor thing) but I can get some fertile eggs from...

    pecking order YIKES

wow, I have a hen who was adopted into my little pack of three hens. They pecked her unmercifully. Now i ended up with three new teens and she's beating the crap out of one of them. Why do they do this? Even after they've been picked on themselves? I get there is a "pecking order" but ...

what would you do? Dog help

I would say no. I LOVE the breed, and have had 2, but my last one (the topic of this thread) really threw me for a loop. My last one, although quirky, was not as aggressive or high energy. I'm learning now he was NOT typical of the breed. That said, I was surprised how even GOlden Retrievers can...

what would you do? Dog help

are you sick of me yet? I did consult with three very good trainers. Two who knew her personally. They feel she could be placed, but in the right home (fenced yard, no unexpected kids/strangers walking on land, etc). I live in a semi rural area and she had so much energy................ WHO...

what would you do? Dog help

lol, the more I read the more I feel I need to follow up on your questions. She is AMAZING with kids on the property or at my house. It was that weird incident where the four year old was walking into my backyard (unfenced 3 acres) with his dad behind him. She did not bite, but she rushed at...

what would you do? Dog help

I'm still reading, but THANK YOU ALL! It was that 1% chance of her biting that I could not risk after having 3 close calls. The crazy part is she is AN amazing dog. Smart! I like all your responses and food for thought in general. I fancy myself fairly knowledgeable on dogs and training having...

what would you do? Dog help

i'm so sorry everyone. I'm just getting back and will sit and read all your responses. We LUCKED out. I found a retired rancher who has 2 older cattle dogs and has raised them (the breed) for years. When I started to explain her, he just nodded and said, "Yep, that's a cattle dog." She is...

what would you do? Dog help

After trying just about everything from training, remote collar, ...... our 2 year old Cattle Dog is just getting more aggressive. She is fine with us, but has already bit two adults (walking down the street when she had got out and today, she charged the neighbor's 4 year old.) What]s worse is...
