    Chickens Coming Home to Roost

The first time I let the girls out my friends were making fun of me " good luck catching all of them" I said that they are going to go in all by themselves when it gets dark!! They thought I was insane. Sure enough all walked in and I softly shut the door. Their mouths dropped to the floor...

    Sleeping in laying box. Normal???????????

Temporary close in the nest boxes until they are near laying age. By that time they should have learned to use their roosts.

    What are your coop regrets?

A suggestion that has worked out terrific for me was adding a droppings pit under the roosts - rest of coop stays relatively clean and is a snap to shovel out Good Luck

Can someone please id my rare bird

I think it is a Silver Spangled Hamburg. Leaden Blue shanks - white earlobes - wait to see if it develops a rose comb to be sure. I got one with my MM order last year that was exactly like that. It turned out to be a Roo so had to give him away. Yours also looks like a Roo??

Injured leg - not sure what to do

Not sure if it is the same but one of my girls favored a leg - I tried to pick her up but was afraid to chase her - I decided to wait until they calmed down during the roosting hours. Couldn't find anything visible. Observed them the next few day and could see any limping anymore? Maybe...

    Clean coops

For anyone still building a COOP - I would suggest putting in a droppings pit under the roosts (if possible) It has made clean up so easy. 90% of droppings seem to go in pit. My roosts are on hinges and flip up. I also have outside door access from the pit for the Winter time.

Please tell me they aren't roosters!

I agree with sdeneen2001 - Bella is Ben !! I have 11 BR and the Rooster definately sticks out due to his more pronounce white markings As previously stated you won't have to wait long to find out.
