We had chickens a few years ago and have since moved but are considering getting some more.
The one thing that I hate is having to go out first thing in the morning to let them out and then go out to put them to bed again....but we have a lot of coyotes around so the girls had to be safely...
I ordered 3 black australorpes. Two of the three look identical (the Twins), except that one has yellow feet. The third, Lurch is a fair bit larger that the twins and had very little in the way of comb and wattle. They are all 21 weeks.
Can anyone help me identify? Just curious.

I have a serious ant problem and need to spray or dust the perimeter of the house. The trouble is that my chickens occasionally get out, not often but that they can needs to be a consideration...and we let them out of the run in the late afternoon to eat up some bugs.
I have got to stop the...
My Campbells are three and a half weeks old. Getting some feathers but not all feathered out yet.
I have created a play yard for them outside that is secure and safe from predators...for day time fun. The last few days have been in the upper 70s and they have really enjoyed the new freedom of...
I have 4 khaki campbells that are 2 and a half weeks old. I just saw on another thread that they should be getting off the heat lamp soon. I understand the 5 degree drop per week for chicks but can someone tell me about ducklings?
At what temps can they go outside? I adore them but man are they...
I am thinking that this is normal as they are beginning to get some little bitty tail feathers....but, they are two weeks old and when we had them out to play today, DD and I noticed two have chest stubble and look a little balding. At first I thought it was because I placed their waterer inside...
When ever I come sit by the brooder my ducklings come to see what I am up to. Usually I just put my hand inside and they nibble on my fingers and my ring.
What treats are appropriate for this age? I want to encourage them to come to me but I don't want to make them sick!
I have 6 one week old chicks and 4 one week old ducklings. When can they go outside to run around, ( 20 minutes of supervised play time). I think the ducks are ready, but not sure about the chicks.
*Edited to rephrase my question...is it ok to take them out to a sunny area on my lawn to play...
I got the call early this morning...4:30.
I will post pics later but I have a couple questions. One of my packing peanuts had his leg stuck straight out behind him and could not stand. He was alive but died shortly after I got them all home. What could have been wrong with his leg? It seemed...
My new Campbells are coming this week with some chicks. The lady at the feed store told me that I could start the ducklings on the chick starter, but I read here not to start them on medicated feed which is what I bought.
I guess I need to go back and get some Flock Raiser...just wanted to...
My City Municipal coda says yes, but my HOA says no.
I want to put together a compelling argument to change their minds. I do not think a petition will help at all as we are in a somewhat upscale community that just won't get it....in time sure, but right now, not really. That will be my next...
Quick question...I am hoping that some of you may have the ammunition that I need so that I can convince my HOA that I can have chickens. They are legal here in San Diego, as long as it is within certain restrictions (under 25 birds, housed 50' from residences)
So I asked my HOA representative...
We live in the suburbs and I would really like to have 3-4 hens to provide us with eggs and entertainment
We have a spot for a small hen house and run and I would really like to let them roam freely in our backyard. I had just about had my family convinced until my DH asked about them popping...
