I read that chickens will eat mice. What about breeding them for feeders like people do for snakes. They are very high in calcium and protein. Does anyone do this? Are they possibly more economical then commercial feed? Mice don't generally eat alot. I used to breed and sell to snake people...
My neighbor has silkies and the got what appears to be cocidia. But she has treated with corid for over two weeks and now some are dying. We thought they were well for a week and I took two to my coop but not my others are at risk.
How .long does it take to treat this stuff? I put mine on it now...
I am picking some up from Meyer's hatchery and just read they are not cold hearty. I am in Ohio and our coldest temps in winter are generally zero but we rarely see in the 20's actually for most winters. Does anyone know how hardy these guys are in zero?
Pigeons are getting a lot more fun.
A pair has mated
Chowing down sprouted pigeon seed. I feed them the wild bird seed and corn, but I got pigeon seed to sprout for all my birds and chickens, as it is so healthy for them sprouted. I also give them greens.
It is supposed to say Chowing, not...
Four years with chickens. Ten years with bird breeding http://www.feathersnsong.com and now I have pigeons.
I am pretty sure I have three males and one female, so I am going back soon to trade in a male or see if we can get two more females, not sure if three pairs might be too much for their...
His leg will not stretch out. At the joint, it is firmly stuck in a bent position and the foot is turned a bit.
I can't make the leg stretch out to even splint it. It is not splay leg.
Has anyone seen this?
Baby hops on one foot and gets around fine so far. Can she/he live like this? I notice...
I got some silkie chicks yesterday and they gave me a baby to help. I thought he had splay leg. But his foot is not flat. It is turned sideways. He hops around on one foot fine so far. Is there a fix for this? Will a chicken live just hopping on one foot?
I don't know if he holds it up...
I got this last year and prior to that I used the styrophoam ones for years and years for lizard, green cheek conures and chicken eggs.
The thermometer is at the top. I don't like that. How do I know whether the temp is correct for my eggs. I used it once last spring semi successful and in the...
I have an experienced mom who just kindled late and two bunnies died that were huge and one is alive, born with fur.
I think the larger one was possibly a fetal giant and it held her back.
So now I have one baby that I need to keep alive and I might allow her to feed once a day. She just fed and...
I have this thing running to get it all figured out before I put eggs in.
The Brinsea thermometor is just about at 100 and the thermometer down where the eggs will sit is at 97.
Is this ok? Or should I raise the brinsea temp until the egg area is 99.5?
Thanks.
I mean I looked on ebay and there are some that look like a thermometer on there.
I don't have alot of space in my Brinsea to put anything extra that is big if it is full of eggs.
Will that type work?
I just set it up to test it out. I have some eggs coming on Saturday, so I need to be ready.
I thought it came with a hydrometer. It doesn't appear to have anything on it that measures humidity.
Am I missing something?
What type do you all use in yours? I need to get one ASAP! Thanks.
My house humidity is almost 50 on the second floor and 60 on the first floor.
I checked my hydrometer by putting it outside and it was 70 and the weather on my IPAD states that is what it is.
So if I need to keep my chicks at low humidity to incubate, how can I?
Aside from buying a...
I just lost 70.00 worth of SQ silkie eggs. I have had serama hatches, but not tops, maybe 50 percent.
I am not sure what went wrong with the silkies, but it broke my very heart to loose them.
So today I am searching a better incubator. I have read some stuff on here about better incubators and...
I do not know what is going wrong with my hatches.
I need to talk to someone who really knows this game.
I hatched bearded dragons for like ten years and even some green cheek conure eggs, but never had any issues.
I am so scared to ever buy another egg again.
After all I have gone through with...
They have a huge run here. It is about a third of my yard, so it is free ranging to a point. Half of it is grass which they keep down enough so we never have to mow and the other half is dirt, only because we put dirt over there when we built gardens, so it killed the grass.
I have tried to...
Hi, I have serama's and now have them in the house so that they will be safe for winter.
I could heat the coop outside with a light bulb, but am concerned that on cold days they would still be in danger, as they don't stay in the coop during the day.
So I have them indoors in pens, in my...
I am getting Indian Fantail Pigeons. I want them to have some free roaming time.
Our back yard is divided up into an area that is fenced in for my chickens with bird netting over the top, so that they are safe inside and can't fly out.
I am hoping that they might free range some with my...
