Interesting! I didn't know that the pea comb was dominant. I have seen roosters with combs that are closer to their head, whereas my rooster's comb seems to be more prominent. Thank you for the answer!
Hello! I have had Sumatras for about 4 years now, and I have been letting them do their thing (they are almost entirely free-range), and I usually end up with about 30 Sumatra chicks between 3 hens and one rooster. I bought them as a quad originally, so I am unsure if they are related...
Bad photos I know, but I wanted to show off the color on my Sumatra cross rooster - momma Sumatra had a fling with a white frizzle Cochin rooster. These guys were free range hatched and live with my goats :P
With her color and type (sort of) she might pass as a Flemish Giant. She would need to be at least 14 lbs though and from pictures she looks kinda small and refined in comparison. Maybe a Flemish crossed with a smaller meat breed?
Quick question! I bought a trio of Sumatras in March, a rooster and two hens - my rooster (Manolo) only seems to like his two Sumatra hens. In my batch of hatchery chicks I have Wyandottes, Cochin Bantams, Welsummers, Easter Eggers, Porcelains, Mille Fleurs... hens in all those breeds, but...
Well, whatever she is, my Sumatra rooster loves her. His Sumatra hens both have chicks right now and hate him, and she is the only one he hangs out with now. :P
I know this post is pretty old, but it was the first result when I typed in "Mini Lamancha" in the Google search - so I thought I'd add my two cents!
I've had Nigerians, Mini Lamanchas, AND Mini Nubians - at different times. My Nigerians have always been incredibly docile and only get a little...
Love my Sumatras! I got a trio of them to "get back into chickens"... 17 chickens later... now one of my hens has hatched out EIGHT purebred Sumatra babies :) She is a great momma so far!
I ordered mine from McMurray Hatchery - 3/3 were hens, but the color was so-so - I kept back the best colored hen for myself, the others had a very dull red and their blue wasn't very dark. Their hatching availability for this breed is also more limited... all I can say is at least they were...
So, out of my entire shipment of birds from McMurray Hatchery this year... ONE rooster. Can you believe it?? I got one gorgeous black frizzle cochin rooster that I am very happy to keep. Every single other batch - all straight run, even my full sized BLR Wyandottes - all hens. Just a sampling of...
This girl is about 5 months old now! And usually I can tell what they're going to be but... what is this?? She was shipped from McMurray Hatchery as the free exotic chick in a shipment of banties, and with her size she is definitely a banty. She is clean legged and when she first arrived I...
Last update from my shipments, I had excellent customer service with MM every time I contacted them. They refunded me this morning for the chicks I lost. I am certain that the problem lies with the postal service, and I told them as much. In two shipments I received 43 chicks, and I ended up...
He's ready 2 fight
lol, I have some concerns that my African might actually be a Toulouse... my Chinese stands up more often than the African and seems like he has a longer neck, and he definitely has the right stance. We grabbed the African out of the Chinese bin because for whatever reason...
My replacement shipment came in this morning, they threw in about 3 extra chicks but did not include the heat pack I requested... I had 5 DOA including my Mille Fleurs AGAIN... apparently we are not destined to be. The chicks were visibly shivering when I opened the box. I don't know whether I...
I got my first geese in 10+ years on Monday, I am enjoying them a lot! I got an African and a Chinese white - I got them from North 40. I call the white one Lucy and the African is Toulouse (because my ideal goose is named Toulouse). Lucy is super talkative, she'll chirp back and forth with me...
Nice! I'll look at them if I ship chicks in again next year. I'm looking at Holderread right now cause I've heard excellent things about them. Caldwell is... I wanna say a 7 or 8 hour drive? I was hoping for something in Spokane or surrounding areas, like a max of a 2 hour drive or so :p
I have a local breeder selling black copper marans for $10 a piece, and blue copper marans for $12.50 each - is this a decent price for these guys? I was really interested in picking up some of the blue coppers.
I am in Priest River! I picked up two African and Chinese (white) Goslings at the Sandpoint North 40 (Big R), very healthy little things! Do we have any hatcheries nearby? I thought I saw a hatchery sign near Ford, WA the last time I was over there.
