PS, It probably isn't worth mentioning but I would have already thrown the feed bag you are using away and opened another one. I would also be religiously changing the water.
If I tried to catch and mess with the birds in my brooder pen that were active every day for more than a few days, I think they would all be stressed to death. I would be inclined to keep the dark hours up and leave it alone. If it has the same thing the first one had I don't like your odds I...
Othman, I am guessing at this point the other pea is finished or very close to finished with the Metronidazole course, has been wormed and has been on Baytril a couple of days. I am wondering if the stress of medication and lack of just general sleep is stressing the bird. I think I would be...
I have not used either but it would not hurt if you can get it in them. You have to remember that we have enough birds that it is hard to do some of the things you can do if you have fewer birds.
I don't have my info in front of me but I know that I have given 400 mg in one day to birds in the 1.5 to 2 kg range to try and save them. I would not give that dosage as a preventative or to a possibly infected flock/pen. Be careful using it as a preventative, we don't want to develop a...
I am not sure that this is enough. I am going to defer to Kathy on the standard dosage since I am not in a position to search my computer.
IMPORTANT: Birds that are sick and/or dehydrated have absorption issues with medicine in pill form. Crush the pills and mix with a little water.
Kathy, I really don't know but I have doubled the dosage before and not caused any harm. I was not suggesting that I know the answer or that the information out there is bad. I just know that these long term illnesses are almost always related to diseases of the internal organs. I think it is...
I do believe a key issue in dealing with these illnesses is the appropriate dosage of Metronidazole. I believe it can and should be higher then what is currently discussed on severely ill birds.
You gave it your best effort and that's all you can do. Every year we lose a couple that we really don't want to lose. We lost a bird that is a new color or a variation on an existing one this year. It happens. Between hatching and 7-8 months, Peas are just delicate in many ways.
Although...
There is absolutely nothing more that you can do for this bird that you are not doing. Just try and keep it hydrated with a little food. Unfortunately, sometimes the damage to the cecum and the liver is done and cannot be reversed.
I hate to say it but usually if they do not respond by day...
Ok, I understand. Still think the Metronidazole is the key. Food and water will certainly help the weakness in the video.
I thought from the question in Post 193 that the treatments were not ongoing.
I am going to run a little against the grain here. I would have started on the Metronidazole as the antibiotic. Baytril is a fantastic drug and will shut down most run of the mill type bacteria and is great on the respiratory side but it is much more likely given the length of sickness that a...
