    Dutch Bantams Breed Thread

Chicks are usually hatched with pale yellow/brown legs. However, the legs quickly turn slate within 6-8 weeks (in my experience).

$2 certainly is a low price. However, since she came from a hatchery and likely isn't purebred (most hatchery Dutch have Old English Game in their backgrounds), I doubt most people would pay more than $10-$15 for her. On the other hand, his price of $80 for each of his birds is a little high...

Yes, she is a Dutch bantam, albeit a hatchery quality one.

The two with light legs are definitely not Dutch bantams; instead, they're likely Old English Game. The other three look more Dutch, but even they appear to have at least some Old English Game bantam in them.

Okay, here are some more photos.: (Ignore the hand and the Wyandotte in the background- he was there to make this pullet flare and show herself better) This is a 6 month old Dutch pullet. Her mother is the sister of the hen in the previous post. She has a small, five point comb and...

Hello! I'm looking for any critiques on these Dutch females of mine. None of them are posing perfectly in the photos (chickens are so hard to photograph!), but I would be grateful for any comments on them. First off, a 7 month old LB Dutch pullet. Though you may not be able to tell from...

He doesn't look like a Dutch Bantam (wrong earlobe color, type, and leg color). If I had to guess, I would say he is some sort of Japanese Bantam, but I'm not sure if they come in his variety (Splash?).

Doesn't look like any common or recognized variety that I know of. She does have defining characteristics of the Dutch Bantam breed (slate legs, white earlobes, single comb, etc.); its probably her variety that isn't pure. Where did you get her from?

As far as I know, there is no such thing as "booted Dutch". Your bird looks like a mixed breed to me, possible with Belgian Bearded D'Uccle or bantam Langshan crossed in. The color of your bird doesn't fit any color variety that I know of.

My Dutch Bantams lay about 4 eggs a week, or about every other day. The eggs are quite large in proportion to their body size; maybe 1/3-1/2 the size of a large-fowl chicken's egg. In the summer, my Dutch hens usually go broody about twice each. However, they're usually easy to break of that...

Your new bird doesn't look like a purebred Dutch Bantam; more like a Dutch/Old English Game Bantam cross. A pure Dutch Bantam would have white earlobes, a longer back, and a less-upright tail carriage. But he still probably has some Dutch in him. Pretty bird!

Appears to be a Blue-Cream-Light-Brown Dutch Bantam. Very pretty!
