Dutch Bantams Breed Thread

Neither chick picture looks typical Dutch baby. Pictures may be deceiving. Need to see the parents of the chicks. If from Hatchery parents, little hope of true Dutch of any color, but still you may hope! If same parents for both chicks--not Dutch......will look for pictures of "just hatched" Dutch. May take a while???

Hi!
I've bought a few dutch bantam. Three pullets and two cockerels (young birds). The red cockerel and a pullet has light legs. The grey pullet has blue and white splash legs. Are they purebred?

The two with light legs are definitely not Dutch bantams; instead, they're likely Old English Game. The other three look more Dutch, but even they appear to have at least some Old English Game bantam in them.

Such pretty bantams and not a Dutch among them. Your chicks, pictured are not Dutch if these birds are parents. Sorry, but you will never get a DUTCH from them. They are mixes of varieties, and your little ones, that are never seen in Dutch. Crosses with Old English Game Bantams, that Hatcheries use, if they raise their own, cannot be DUTCH, one of the oldest breeds of Bantams in Europe, and unique--. Enjoy them as beautiful BACKYARD BANTIES, but never as Dutch Bantams. Because they are mixes of breeds and varieties (color and patterns), you cannot even hatch anything except mixes--pretty bantams, but not a breed or variety in a breed. Sorry for the news. Need a study, even brief, of genetics of color, to learn the rules of breeding what you want to see in your birds. None of your birds give dominant traits for their appearance-colors. And NEVER flock breeding of different varieties can predict what your chicks will look like. Bantam breeding is such a great activity, but takes study--and "know your seller" if you purchase birds of a BREED and VARIETY. You did not get Dutch Bantams--even if one walked through the breeding pen before the eggs were hatched! Good luck,

Found a picture of a hatch of Light Brown Dutch, not mine. I would never raise mine on wire! Poor babies.

I have a few we entered in the wrong class I guess. They both are dutch. Just not sure on the variety and I would like your opinion on the quality. I'm thinking my cockerel is a Cream Light Brown Dutch but not sure on the pullet. I'm assuming the same.

We entered our rooster thinking he was an old english to find out he is a dutch. Is he a Cream Light Brown Dutch? I also have a Dutch hen it turns out and pretty sure it's the same breed. Can anyone tell me for sure?

If I may ask, where did you find your birds? It doesn't seem like anyone is active on this forum anymore.

I actually got my birds at Tractor Supply last year. They sold them as just bantams. We thought they were old english and they turned out to be Dutch Bantams. So they were disqualified for being in the wrong class. I am actually going to be breeding this pair this year.

I have one hen that I think is one of the prettiest hens I ever had. Great little bird always friendly althio flighty but my little baby. Was one in a bunch of chicks I got at TSC last year would love to start a flock with her but don't know where I can get some more hens and a rooster. I'm on SS disability so lots of money is not there. Anyone know who might sell eggs cheep?
