@MrsBachbach
Thank you for your reply. These two cockerels were purchased as hatching eggs. The lighter of the two came from an egg with a slight green hue and #2 came from a bluer egg. So to answer your question, same father different mothers. The breeder sent a picture of the Cock and hens...
Thank you for your reply. Looks like I'll be looking for another rooster.
edit to add...
If I decide to rehome the two males, should a call them pet quality Ameraucanas or easter eggers?
Two cockerels, brothers, five months.
I know it's too early for a full evaluation, but I'm wondering if there is any chance whatsoever that either of these two will be suitable to breed with my three blacks, or should I not even think about using them with the blacks because they are blue? I'm...
This is my black Am from Susan's farm. He is only nine months old. I love how he stands so tall and proud all of the time.
Sorry it's not the best quality picture, they move around a lot.
So, I have this adorable Blue Ameraucana from Kara Ferri's lines. I have been back and forth on this one's gender for the last few weeks now. Some features make me think cockerel while other features make me think pullet. Can you tell me if it's a pullet or a cockerel, please.
17 weeks...
Yes, the breeder's hatch rate is phenomenal. The two that did not make it to lockdown were lost because my son and I are both terribly clumsy at times. It makes sense that leakage would show up in splash birds more so than blue or black. I may use the blue for a few hatches to see what he...
I saw no issues in the photos provided, but I'll be sure to ask in the future if and/or what the breeder is working on with their lines. Thank you for being frank.
Good idea. Thank you.
Since these particular birds have leakage they are (unfortunately) easter eggers. You are right about that...
Could I get some advice from you guys. I ordered a dozen Blue/Black/Splash Ameraucana hatching eggs from someone. The egg color was good. 100% of the eggs were fertile and all 10 that made it to lockdown hatched.
Would it be considered slanderous, inappropriate or anything like that if I named...
Mine are eight months now, but only the one was acting like it was close to laying. The other two blacks and my blue wheaten aren't remotely interested in the nest box. lol To be honest, I'm not expecting them to start until Spring. I've got my fingers cross for you. Good luck!
@FreedomFarm13
Thank you. I was totally shocked when I saw the first egg yesterday... This one from today is a good size for a pullet egg. I didn't weight it, but based on the others I've weighed this one is right on the edge of small and medium.
My black Ameraucana that I got from @samouw laid her first egg this morning!!! The color is SOOOO intense. I'm surprised at the actual shade though. But the richness of this egg's color is totally awesome.
Edit to add - the egg only has a hint of green. It is definitely blue. Totally one to...
