"My glw hens i got as chicks april 15,2015 and not one has laided an egg yet. Is that normal or are they sterile. They came from meyer hatchery." Pandapaws23, that means they are 9 months old, correct? I also got a some chicks from Meyer Hatchery last April, and they have been laying for some...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

Hello everyone! My mixed flock, (made up of mostly Wyandottes) is laying quite well for the time of year, getting into the teens at night here in West Virginia. Most of my hens are around 8 months old, and I do think they are laying more than my older hens. Age certainly does play a factor, as...

Yes, that is how my GLW cockerels, (all 5 of them) feathered out. The males where slower to mature than the females, so I wouldn't be concerned as long as he seems active and healthy. The next feature you may notice is that his comb and wattles will become a brighter color than the girls', and...

No, they don't have to molt before getting their coloring. As the feathers grow in, they should be the GLW coloring, although some of mine have changed slightly as they mature. I had one hen who was mostly black until she was about 3 1/2 months old, then she developed a little more gold and now...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

I have 5 GLW roosters right now, trying to find homes for 4 of them. They have very "individual" personalities. A couple of them are pretty friendly, in fact I was just out in the coop and my "keeper", Russell Crowe, came up to me and let me pet him for a quite a while. On the other hand, I have...

Here is a pic of my Wyandotte chicks, the one in front is a Golden laced, the ones with lighter faces are Silver Laced. I had one chick that was lighter all over, he ended up being my SLW Rooster: And here is today: Hope this is helpful.

It is great that he so good with the others, especially young ones. I'm planning on adding to my flock this spring, and am a bit nervous about how my hens and roosters will accept the newcomers.

Maybe the average is actually more like 8 1/2 lbs. for a GLW Rooster? I look forward to seeing how he turns out, so please keep posting pics. I hope you decide to breed him, he looks like a very nice specimen to me.

Wow, that is a lovely rooster. His feathering is awesome. I can't imagine he would grow much more, maybe put on a little weight over time, do you have some way to weigh him? I think the breed average is 7 1/2 pounds for a rooster. So you could weigh him now, and make a little growth chart to see...

Yes, I see what you mean. Taking care of Pee Wee as a chick was kinda stressful. I kept expecting him to die in the night. I wouldn't want to have a whole batch like that, my nerves couldn't take it. So I guess I should keep my biggest one? He isn't the most aggressive, but he does stand up to...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

Thanks for the advice. I'm afraid the longer I keep them the more attached I will get to them. I've noticed that Pee Wee is catching up to the others, so that it is getting harder to tell him apart at a glance. If he grows to be a big healthy rooster, I may keep him and part with his brothers...

Lovely rooster. I'm in the process of finding homes for 4 of my 5 GLW roos, due to a mistake at the hatchery. I don't know which one to keep, the largest? or the prettiest? best personality? I'm really tempted to keep "Pee Wee" as he was a runt and took a lot of special care upon arrival, but I...

Let me know what you find out. By the way, at about what age could you start seeing which ones will be roosters? And what is the first sign?

I've come across this website which gives the standard for Wyandottes, don't know if this will be helpful or not. Your chickens are lovely, by the way. Hope my Goldens turn out like that! Here is a link: http://www.wyandottebreedersofamerica.net/wyandottestandard.htm

I'm new to the group and to chickens. We just got a batch of Golden Laced and Silver Laced Wyandottes, and a "mystery chick". At what age will I be able to tell them apart. As of now only 1 is really gold colored, and her name is "Goldie"
