I like the integrated porch/coop/run idea, very efficient use of space. I can't help but wonder though, are there any problems with, ahem, chicken smell?

@country girl44: If I may ask, where did you get the close gate sign?

The artical has been there for months - ever since the preliminary planning stages. :oops:ADDENDUM: Ah-ha! There it is, way down on page 26. I guess I didn't dig deep enough, sorry. Thanks for the heads up on the missing l ink, I guess something got lost in the move.

Question; how do you get your coop displayed in the coop pages here?

Yeah, My bad. The granulated stuff is called Sweet PDZ. CoopKlean is a mixture of powdered zeolite and short cut hay. I use that on the coop floor. The chickens love scratching through it. There must be some hayseeds mixed in, I guess.

I use granulated Zeolite ("SweetPDZ"), a little more expensive than sand, granted, But along with all the benefits of sand it also absorbs and neutralizes ammonia; keeps the coop smelling better (healthier for my ladies too!). You can get it at TSC and for some strange reason they usually keep...

There's a chicken decor thread? A thread for chicken themed decor? Or decor for chickens (coops?)?.

A tarp will not support itself when filled with rain or snow, especially if it has been exposed to the elements for a while. I have a tarp over my run, but it is laying on top of 2x4 wire that is securely fastened to the walls and rafters of the run. Yes, I do still get some pooling but the wire...

I have a question regarding nesting boxes. A lot of coops have them set up so that you can open them from the outside to collect the eggs. This sounds very convenient, but assuming you do NOT want your birds roaming around free how do you keep them from escaping when you open the outside door? I...

Nice coop! Love the rustic look of the knotty pine, are you going to stain it or paint?

The roosts are 13" away from the walls. Although from the distribution of their droppings they prefer facing the center of the coop, they don't seem to mind. Easter Eggers aren't that big anyway (they were almost fully grown in the pic you saw). And I've seen pictures here of chickens roosting...

They're not poop boards per se, but poop trays (I'll try and add some photos later). I added side walls and filled them with granulated zeolite ("SweetPDZ") which not only absorbs moisture but also neutralizes ammonia. Five minutes with a kitty litter scoop and they're clean. You'll be amazed at...

Shingles are good, look good too. I shingled mine... I also tarred the plywood roof panels before I shingled them. Partly to protect the wood partly to make absolutely sure no rain got in, You don't have to use cedar shingles (I splurged a bit there) plain asphalt ones will do great.
