The African and Chinese goose thread!!

I can only imagine something bad has happened with Marty. She got that white trio from me two years ago and I can't see her parting with them without good reason. Hope she surfaces again.

They should be fine to be outside at that age in those conditions. Mine are outside all day long by that age and 24/7 if with their parents.

Starfire, parsley is toxic to waterfowl. Spinach, while not toxic, blocks calcium absorption.

Gotcha on the sports tape vs. vet wrap. I have had two occasions with geese getting angelwing. Both times my vet wrapped extra tight and higher up on wing than pictured in tutorials on this site and only had me leave it on a maximum of 48 hours. Both geese were fixed right up this way.

Use vet wrap. Tuck wing in place and tape high (and tight) at the joint. Leave on for 24-48 hours.

I cannot tell the difference between most African and Chinese goslings. Serv's right. It could be either one. I too, was thinking that the brown one was a boy.

Congrats! They are adorable. The dark one is a brown African. The white one is not Chinese. It looks like it has a little tuft, so I'd guess Roman tufted.

X2. I will also add that if you give broody mama geese, she and your precious gander (who is stunning), will be very happy. However, if you do not give them goslings, your broody mama will eventually give up on the nest and go through a short period of depression, which is normal but can be...

If your dog is safe with cats now, chances are good that you can train your dog to be good with your flock. Start by taking him (on leash) with you when you do chores. Work on getting a perfect recall, redirect attention if he looks stimulated using treats and positive reinforcement. Do not...

CONGRATS!!!!!! Don't forget to spray momma's nest with super warm water like you did before!

Fowlmama, I hope you take Sloan (great name) to his momma. Both will be much happier if together. And please do not be too disappointed with the rough 1st hatch. It is a wondrous and joyful sight to watch a momma goose march off her nest with multiple babies in tow. I hope you give your girl...

I'd probably leave eggs with the goose at this point (I do not have much hope for them). It is still early in season and your goose's 1st try. Consider this to be a valuable learning experience. Let your goose raise up her solo gosling and try again if she goes back into laying/broody mode...

You are in a catch 22 position now. If in an incubator, I recommend misting every 1-2 hours once battling shrink wrap. On the other hand, the right mixture of spraying and goose's heat may create the proper humidity and every time you lift your goose off the babies, you expose them to dry air...

Fowlmama, that is exactly what shrinkwrap is. I would take a spray bottle filled with super warm water and give the remaining three eggs a really good spray down, then hope momma goose sits right back down on them.

I wonder if the babies got shrinkwrapped. With all the upset for broody mom, the hatchlings may be getting exposed to dry air.

Fowlmama,I feel your pain and frustration! I'm not sure what I'd do about the remaining eggs. However, I would like to believe that if you gave your goose another chance to sit, she'd probably do much better next time.
