So how can you be bored?....I know you still have plenty of kiddos there to keep you busy!!
I was going to set some SLW eggs to hatch out some replacements for the hens that the coons got but the girls are barely laying now. It's cooled down some so maybe they'll start...

thanks Katy....
I am bored tonight. Jerry and Nathan (13 year old) went to the KY basketball game tonight. This is Nathan's first live KY game.... picture from their seats. Guess I could find more pictures of Wyandottes instead. KY and basketball.... Is there anything...

I'm also pretty sure this is a cockerel. It also has the beginnings of wattles that you can't see in the photo. But all 18 chicks have very few feathers. Some are a bit more feathered and some a but less. About 1/3 of them have no feathers at all on their shoulders...

My first guess on the BLRW is pullet, but it's still early.
Craig....I'd bet money that your's is a cockeral.......all my SLW cockerals feather in like that plus I can see a bit of red comb.
Katy, re your sig: The disadvantage of being a Farmer/Rancher is that you never get that...

I can't guess at the gender with any credibility but I'm amazed at all the feathers compared to mine at 4 weeks. So far most of them only have feathers on the wings a a few on their back.

I'm guessing...
Mrs. Turbo :
I will be glad when hatching season is over....we are all tired! For some reason this year has been crazy, maybe because we added a new variety and a 5th child to the mix.
He is almost 10 months and does not like me to leave the room, let alone sneak to the barn or brooder room...

I was eyeballing the SLW you had cruising the grounds. Those birds were fabulous.
Too bad I don't need BLR chicks or I'd grab those you have on featherauction!
Colby..... I didn't think you were a SLW kinda girl. the roosters are bigger than you are
What?! Colby is...

I don't know who they got their SLW picture from but I can tell you that is not what their breeding stock looks like. Those traits would be passed on in the chicks.
I think I found their picture once on a UK website. There is false advertising...

They get their chicks thru a hatchery....if you want birds that have a better chance of being show quality and meeting the standard for the breed get them from a breeder.
