Back to BYC! I've missed you guys :) I'm happy to see you're still here. I met someone who would like one small goose to live with his chickens, as a pet not a guard. His mother would not allow him to have a goose as a child, so now is his chance! He has small children, and I was chastised on...

Considering a few Isbars...one site says they're less disease resistant. Opinions?

I love the Khaki! And the shape & fluffiness of your Bantams is amazing! Locking down my first eggs in a while today...and I forgot optimal settings (didn't we used to have an emoticon for blushing?) Using an R-Com 20....turner off but still at 99.3 & 45%, with Dawn's lovely BCM, etc...

Lucky you :) I heard that my local beekeeper makes $60,000 a year for taking his hives to almond country to pollinate the trees!

When Dr Dan spoke on management, he said we need to be able to open the whole coop to the sun. If I could do it over, I'd build A-frames with plywood, so I could unscrew the top & bake or scrub out any cooties living there. Shone farm has a canvas yurt :). Very much worth a visit!

For now I use it as a treat. I would love to have a bigger system so it can actually feed all the birds & goats :)

No please :) Too many people have had coop fires! Even in snowy areas there is no need; chickens have down coats :) How old are your birds? You do need a heat source for brooders.

Hi Dawn, I'm finally back to BYC. Been busy with goats, and learning about beekeeping! The peaches are already blooming here. Must get bees soon! I've decided I really want some Pita Pintas. Bee fever and chicken fever!

My Border Collie was always fine with mine but went after intruder chickens...we had to convince him not to hurt our newly acquired birds. RIP Red Rose Sam. We miss him.

I put red plastic over the top of the bator, &/or brooder, in lieu of a red light. They stopped pecking/picking immediately.

Thanks Monica :) I don't suppose you'll be repeating it closer to Santa Rosa? I do want to be there. If anyone wants to carpool (I can drive, just don't want to waste fuel on 3 empty seats), please PM me :)

I am driving from Windsor to Bakersfield/Tehachapi, and right back, this Sunday 4/27. (getting a new doeling! ) Happy to take riders of nearly any species, as long as I can get there on time. (leave home at 6AM) Current route is 101-680-5-46-99-58, flexible as needed. PM is best, in case I miss...

Thanks! Did you find them locally? I'm thinking about shipped eggs in a month or two if I don't find a local source.
