Oh no! I'm glad that it wasn't pullets though it's still sad to see the the cockerels gone too :( We had one get one of my silkie pullets this fall before she ever got a chance to lay. Then the very next day, it got itself trapped in my run (the flock was free ranging). We managed to catch it...

I've been debating moving mine out too. The power went out for 5 hours today and it was just over freezing. They're in the screen porch which is protected from the wind but not heated. They were just fine.

Our daughters do sound a lot alike :) My daughter does tap and ballet. This is her first year of pointe. She used to do acro too but since pointe was starting this year, ballet and tap were split in to two classes and we can only manage two for now so she chose to continue with tap. My son plays...

That's really awesome that Bubbles remembered her trick! I'm sorry that you lost Cuddles :( She sounds like she was quite a chicken! DD is more than welcome to try to train one if she'd like to. I have a feeling that she'll probably have to wait until summer vacation though. Her schedule is so...

Unfortunately It was not fertile but she did lay the two days after I set that one so I added in the other two. One of those other two are developing. I'm going to save her eggs the rest of this week, whatever she happens to lay and set them for the new years hatch a long. Hopefully a couple hatch.

The one lone silkie egg? I'm actually going to check today :) unless you're talking about that weird chimney egg that I set a while ago. That one was not fertile.

Well, I gave in and set the one silkie egg that I have. It's been on my counter for well over a week now. I've been waiting for at least another egg to put in with it but since Amel has gone on strike, it looks like I'm out of luck. I hope this egg is fertile!

With mine, it's an average of 12 hours from pip to zip but it can take up to 24.

Humidity around 55% should be ok. What do you mean by busted air cell? Was it rolling from a rough shipment? If so, hatching upright in an egg carton will help out a lot but cut the bottom out of the egg holder for air flow. It's possible that maybe you have an early internal pip though if it...

You're welcome! I was in that boat once...before I got more incubators lol. Not my image, borrowed from the Web.

You can go ahead and raise the humidity for a few days, it won't hurt anything. Are you turning by hand or using an auto turner? If using an auto turner, you can take off a couple of the sections to open up a space for the ones hatching. You'll either need to block access to the turner somehow...

Everyone wish me luck! I just had a hen go broody...again. She's a perpetual broody. This is her 3rd time this year and she just turned a year old a couple months ago lol. I gave her the 5 CCL chicks that I hatched at the beginning of the month. I'm hoping she'll adopt them and raise them for...
