Well if it is a her and her "man" (the drake) is crippled then she is just trying to help things along. I bet she would brood you some eggs if you gave her a nest. You can give her some straw and a fake egg to sit on and see what she does with it.

Well the Muscovies may have the clover to themselves mostly. Mine do not like legumes (of which clover is one along with Alfalfa). They do dig some Timothy though. You might use these "waiting years" to establish a mix of grasses that geese will love.

I have two American Buff ganders. I traded a ram fore them when they were yearlings (they are 3 now). I had geese once before (Brown Africans). I really like these guys better overall. They are a bit smarter. As in they know not to play in the road (the demise of one of the African ganders). But...

I have two Buff ganders. One was kicked by a donkey and has a permanent limp (Eolis). The other larger one (Hercules) is very protective of Eolis. Eolis is very crabby. He is extremely territorial and often bites. He has even bitten me when I am putting their food out. Perhaps some of his...

Thanks, I will scrub the buckets and add the ACV right away. Scrubbing the sore should be interesting. Hercules really has an attitude. Eolis is less volitale but will threaten me if I am fighting with Herc. Mind you I don't start it. If Herc just wouldn't try to bite me we would be fine. He...

I hope someone can help me. What I thought was just dirt on Hercules and Eolis's bills is actually some kind of canker. It was not there back in the fall but has been getting larger on both of them. I finally caught Hercules and ran my finger over the spot and realized that it was somekind of...

I hear you on that! My two were arguing about me bringing the feed and tried to snap at me when I was trying to get to their feed bucket. So fine you jerks! you can eat it off the mud then!

Is anybody going to be selling buff or blue eggs this spring?

Sometimes he does this head dipping thing while turning one eye to me. It looks similar to how he dips his head in the water to splash himself. Other times he comes in low and snakey like he is trying to sneak up and bite me. Yesterday he tried to bite me as I set their bucket of food in the pen...

I am trying to understand some of my Buff ganders body language and vocals. Sometimes they seem to get ****** off for no reason I can see and it escalates into me getting bit and then having to retaliate. I am thinking there is a "failure to communicate" here. I would rather not have to send...

Adults. The main reason I noticed they were skinny is that I caught them and picked them up an noticed that their weight had changed from when I had first gotten them.

OK, I am a little worried about my pair of Buffs. Hercules and Eolis seem healthy enough but they have been loosing weight. I have been feeding them Flock Raiser and letting them out to graze on clover and feeding some wild bird feed from time to time as treats. I put out more than they can...

Then you should definitely place an add with The Livestock Conservancy because most of your contacts through them will be looking for the conservancy angle and not the raise for butcher angle. By the way what is the SOP for Buff Geese anyway. I mean I haven't had my guys long enough to...

Have you thought of running a classified for hatching eggs at The Livestock Conservancy site (http://www.livestockconservancy.org/) You may have to be a member I am not sure. Or if a non-member you may have to pay to list. I used to be a member about 10 years ago. Enjoyed it a great deal. Will...

The lady I got them from got them as goslings. I forgot to ask her where from. I was so excited to find the perfect home for a ram that I knew wasn't going to butcher him. My Chinese had been hatchery geese not show level and I wasn't concerned if these two weren't up to competition level. They...

How so? These are the first Am Buffs that I have had. I had Brown Chinese before. Hercules has some speckling on the end of his beak. You can't see it in the profile pictures. Both of them are just about a year old. The ends of their beaks are pink and Herc has the speckling. I haven't...

Hercules is the largest. In fact it wasn't until I vent sexed Eolis that I knew for sure he was a gander other than the lack of eggs. He was stepped on the day before we traded so he has a sprained leg. Hercules is very protective of Eolis keeping himself between anything he perceives as...
