Lynzi, sorry to hear about the problems your having with your litter. I'm having such a hard time with my Hollands. One is 5 days over due. This is the second time in a row, both of these the only times she's been successfully bred despite many attempts. I'm just waiting for her to pass the most...
I think I know exactly who you got yours from then. My friend bought a Holland Lop from them as a pet/4-H animal. They sold the bunny to her at around 5 weeks old (I didn't see the rabbit, but she said it was extremely young and small looking) and it died within a couple weeks. They refused to...
Those are definitely Holland Lops you have there. Not amazing show potential, but I've seen much worse.
Unfortunately, I know of a rabbitry just like the one your talking about. You don't happen to live in California do you?
My Mini Lop sometimes has runny eyes. It's usually just from the wind. Once I put a blanket on the side of his hutch to block the wind, his eyes began to clear up. You could buy some terramycin; it usually works wonders on my rabbits. If his eyes continue to run, he might have something more...
Since you only buck tested her, maybe she is just having a false pregnancy? It's common after a doe has been mounted for her to have a false pregnancy. :idunno
I took out one of my Lionhead does today while I was cleaning her solid bottomed cage. I have been trying to breed her for months now with no success. I knew I had bred her a while back, but when I palpated her and buck tested her, both were negative (so I thought). I palpated her stomach really...
I thought about getting into Dwarf Hotots, I think their really adorable. A friend of mine breeds them in my city though so I don't want to become her competition. I've seen them mixed with Lionheads to get the black eyeband with white body color, it's actually very cute.
My petite Liohead doe just had a litter of 5 healthy kits last night. Super proud of her as this is her first litter and my biggest litter of Lionheads yet. AND this is my first litter of Lionheads to not have a single peanut! The only way I could be happier is if she didn't have so many Siamese...
I've been having the same problem for a while. Manually lifting has been the only way I've been able to get my does to breed.
There are some other "tricks" that some people have found to work. Unfortunately, I haven't found any success with them.
Here's a good link...
Can I use a latch like this on my wire cage doors without worrying about an animal breaking into the cages? I'm mainly concerned about raccoons. I know they're in the area, but we have a lot of dogs so I think the smell and barking of dogs keeps them away and I'm hoping they would be more...
Don't be afraid to take your rabbits to shows to get a judge's opinion on them. A HL doe I bought at a show was DQed for missing her tail (mother bit it off), but the previous owners still brought her to to be shown so they could get the judge's comments.
I think it's important to get another...
I can usually tell around 4 weeks whose going to be the problem causer. It's the one that runs around mounting its brothers and sisters that I watch out for.
In my opinion, you should always have a back up hutch so your not left scrabbling to put one together if something happens.
What breed are your girls? For smaller rabbits, they will be hitting sexual maturity at this age, this is when things begin to change if they're going to.
If it's lawn, I would cut the lawn down, spray it with water, and give it a few days to be disinfected by the sun. If it's dirt, soil, or anything of the type, I would dig the top layer off, spray it, and let it sit in the sun for a few days, then add more soil to the top.
Pasteurella multocida. If you rabbit has this, it's very contagious so be sure this rabbit is staying far, far away from your other rabbits. Also, be sure your not sharing food, toys, etc. with your other rabbits.
What other symptoms does your rabbit have? Runny nose? Sneezing? Watering eyes...
Thought I would share my experience with cage dividers.
I don't know if any of you remember back when I was discussing a way to block the view of my rabbits from each other. Anyways, someone came up with the idea to use a pegboard so that it had ventilation but still obscured the view. Well...
