Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

And some people want ordinances just so they can control what their neighbors do. Some cities do it for the revenue that ordinance violations generate. Ordinances, by design, are discriminatory.

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Not all of us have bailed. But with the changes to the GAAMP and even the MAEAP, many of us are left in the limbo created when MDARD decided to let the local courts decide the issue. And most of us are not lawyers and can only offer "opinions". Then consider that local authorities have found...

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

I really don't think that anyone was attacked or even sorely offended. Many of us have been around long enough to realize that. Since this is an open forum there can be comments made that might ruffle some feathers (pun intended) but the overall theme of this thread is EDUCATION. So sometimes...

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

I would like to think that they do have better things to do. However, there are plenty of screen shots in my court file. A FOIA confirms that they do have the time to troll the threads. Especially if one is on their radar.

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Given that many people are being persecuted and prosecuted for raising backyard livestock, I suggest that you avoid mentioning the city or township where you live. Some cities are trolling these pages looking for any chicken keepers that may be within their jurisdiction.

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Two months ago, I noticed that the ALEC "model" for a RTFA was word-for-word what the 1999 Michigan law was amended to. So I asked the MDARD deputy director which came first; ALEC or the MI law (the dep. dir. was part of the change at the time). Well he waffled and said to ask the MDARD attorney...

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Just a point of clarification, this is a Senate Agriculture Committee request of MDARD to testify regarding the recent approval of the 2014 GAAMPs. I'm curious to see if any of the commissioners who voted FOR the change are there to testify or if the testimony will be provided by MDARD...

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Everyone at MDARD keeps saying the same thing that Jim Johnson said on Monday, that it is just too hard to regulate this at a statewide level. That is Bull- There is a standard of care established for nearly each type of livestock you can think of. I have used this data for my MAEAP...

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Since they are appointed by the sitting governor and serve a two-year term the only way to get new blood on the commission is with a new governor. Also note that the MDARD director is also an appointed position. And this is an election year!

Director Clover Adams was quite pleased with the decision.

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Regarding Taylor: A friend lives there and she was targeted by the ordinance officer and told to get rid of her animals and more. She capitulated as she was not willing to go through a legal battle. So if you do decide to exercise your legal rights you are likely to be involved in a long...

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

I have already applied for some of the programmes being offered by the USDA and NRCS. The deadline is March 21, 2014 to apply. The application process is slow and tedious just like any other government programme. Much of the process is still on paper forms. You best bett is to actually go to...

Whether you are new to keeping chickens or have years of experience, I urge you to take the time to read the essays regarding the Michigan Right to Farm law and the recent attacks against small farmers. Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Sending you an e-mail with a package that was used in Hudson, WI to allow chickens. There is nothing specific regarding a cause-affect link with rodents and chickens because there IS NO cause-affect link that can be verified. However, that doesn't stop ordinance officers and other uninformed...

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

This is merely MY opinion, but I don't see this as a "victory" for people to have chickens as pets or for personal use, per se. My understanding of the Michigan RTF law is protection offered to commercial operations rather than "hobby" or even "therapy" farm animals. The wrinkle is that there is...

That is great news. Can we get a copy of what was presented? I think that it might help in other communities.

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Several people may know that I was convicted of the criminal offense of keeping chickens. Because I requested a trial, as guaranteed by the Constitution, I received the maximum sentence allowable. Now compare/contrast to other citizens in my community charged with the same criminal offense who...

Michigan Right to Farm Law, what does it mean?

Oops, I forgot that you have city and country homes. The funny thing about the Site Selection GAAMPs is the 1500 foot set back. Less than 1000 feet from my farm is another city that allows for suburban chickens.
