Hooray!!!! My neighbor has the workman at her house right now enclosing the area under hers, as well!!! So happy to help!!! If he uses wire, it will keep them separate and they can still continue the integration, without interruption, as well! I have always used mine when slowly integrating...

poor girl! How scary! I have no idea what your coop space situation is, but do you have the room to close her into her own space, somehow? (dog crate, penned off space, something like that?) We are super-limited in ours...it is just a glorified broom cupboard, but I keep the space underneath...

The good news, Mathilda has hatched out 5 perfect chicks!!! The bad news, my husband has taken the camera on holiday in Seattle for the next 11 days... no baby pictures

PLenty of space is optimal, and a possible place for the 3.5 month olds to escape from the mean old biddies is a a real help (like a big crate with a smaller door space, so only the wees can fit inside, or a penned off area with similar smaller door). They have to establish pecking order, and...

Day 19... Broody is in good spirits and as much a velociraptor as ever... I on the other hand am having crazy dreams about baby chicks...last night I had to do CPR on one drowning....chest compressions on a freshly hatched chook can be so tedious in one's dreams... I am obsessed about the...

Ok, this is not a drill! 'Tilda is setting! Today she jumped off the nest to dustbathe and drink water and poo () and when she did, another hen jumped into her nest to lay. Since she made her leave before she was able to lay, she effectively utilized a babysitter! I am psyched out of my mind...

For the first time since Alice Ann was lost to a predator last fall, I have a hen who is showing signs of major broody! I noticed her at night count last night, and she screamed at me when I tried to gather the day's eggs. Today, her belly is bald and she is straight Broodzilla about being...

Quote: Oh, K, I wish I could help with the chicklets, but I cannot. I can say, however, that AliceAnn was more than happy to broody golf balls (or eggs or nothing at all!). Some hens just sit! Good luck with your dilemma!

Quote: I guess broody-trouble can be common, especially in hatchery birds, as broodiness is generally bred out of them. (broody=no eggs) I was so very blessed to have wound up with a hatchery Born-to-be-Broody. She has been trying to set since she was 6 months old. She went consistently broody...

Quote: It is a good thing I am a broody-hatcher. If I had access to a way to incubate and brood large numbers of eggs and chicks, I would be in big, huge trouble. I was ready to set more when my babies were 2 days old! I still have room for a few more clutches, tho....
