Sorry, I was out of town all weekend, working at a dog show.
The gosling is doing great! And I have another 1 hatching right now. So he/she will have a buddy soon.
Here is the darling today.
I got a big surprise this morning. I woke up to a new hatched gosling! I set that egg on the 14th and was NOT expecting it to hatch this soon. So far the little guy seems tone ok, but lonely. I gave him a stuffed penguin to cuddle with and spend lots of time with him. I hope this little guy...
I'm sorry for the delay, I stayed with him. I made him warm mash, scrambled egg mixed with mash, save a chick. I wrapped him in a cut out sock to keep his belly off the bedding and away from poop to try and stop infection, cleaned his belly with beta-dine. I knew I was losing him and I was, and...
My baby gosling died late last night. It never ate, and I tried all kinds of things, and the hernia didn't look right. I feel awful and keep wondering where I went wrong.
He/she is alive and drinking. But he hasn't eaten yet and still can't walk. So I'm monitoring his progress closely.
He still has a hernia that I'm cleaning and putting Beta-dine on to try and prevent infection.
I used flour, since I've done flour when I didn't have cornstarch to stop bleeding on my dogs, lol. The bleeding has slowed down quite a bit, and the baby is talking away while he/she dries off so I'm hopeful that all will be well.
My 1 day old ducklings are running around in their nursery like...
He is coming out! He cut the side of his bill a little on the broken edges of the egg shell, but seems otherwise very healthy. And I think it's a pied!
Will my flock adopt the extra goslings? (If they all hatch :fl) I have 1 gander and 7 ladies. Or would the females fight over the goslings? Some of the geese are in the middle of molting.
No, he isn't wrapped in paper towel, it's a long, thin strip. I tucked it under and over the shell to help hold it in place, but nothing is holding it to the sides. I'm worried about the zagged edges of the remaining shell, can he hurt himself when he starts zipping? The hole is bigger than a...
Here is the little guy this morning. Still under a damp napkin, so all you can see is his bill, lol. He is very chatty, I have been talking to him through the bator and any time I need to moisten his napkin.
I counted 30 days to get his hatch date.
There is very little change in the gosling's progress. He is still alive and talking, and there seems to be less blood vessels in the visible membrane, but that's it. So I'm still keeping him moist and just waiting.
My gosling is in serious trouble. It pipped, but a huge section of egg came off (maybe there was damage I didn't see when I rescued the egg from mom?). I can clearly see membrane and active blood vessels. I have put a moist paper towel over the hole to try and prevent the membrane from drying...
I just checked the lone goose egg survivor from nest 1. And I can hear peeps and clicking, hope the little guy hatches soon! He has some duckling playmates waiting for him.
Me 2. Originally all these eggs were under broodies. But the eggs were being smashed, or some of the mothers got up and left the nest after 2 weeks. They are all young and inexperienced geese, ducks, and chickens, so I thought it might happen. I just didn't think all 4 "mothers" would do this...
