It's actually called rheostat(tho it does 'regulate'),
it reduces the amount of flow of electricity.
Works like a dimmer switch for light fixtures, if that example helps.
Using an infrared temp gauge($20 at harbor freight) can tell you what temp the plate surface is.
My post(2 years old) that you quoted was regarding a plate different than Premiere's.
I tried to follow the discussion back but the video showing the plate that was being discussed is gone.
As far as 'how hot is too hot', it's hard to say.
I suggest you use an infrared temp gauge to check the...
Here's another clever idea for the top,

Yeppers. You may have to push them under then hold them there until the 'feel the heat', can take a few tries but once a few figure it out, the rest will follow.

Very frustrating as it really needs it, the plate can be way too hot without the rheostat.
Nice videos...the one linked and the unpacking plate one.
I see it came with a rheostat to adjust the heat level....

Brooder room has big windows facing north, kinda dim during day tho so I use a white light,

It's simple rheostat, like the dimmer cord, should* work fine with anything that's not digitally controlled.
*my 'should' is a personal disclaimer, apply at your own risk.
Well, sorry but you can't measure the heat with a plate like you do a lamp...I know, I tried multiple ocd ways.
They just don't work the same, the lamp heats the air and ground under it but the plate doesn't.
Key with the plate is they have to be able to touch their backs to it, that's why it...
